D23 Expo a bust!

Regarding the gift shops, they can open as many as they want, but if they do not add any new and unique merchandise as opposed to the same old tired crap at every single shop, nobody is going to buy. We rarely purchase any merchandise at the parks any more because it is all the same. At one time, you would find different items at each store, whether at the parks or the resorts. Now, it's the same old Chinese garbage no matter where you shop on property.

Do you think when they open the park in China they will import items from the US? Wow think of the profit if they don't have to import them. You are right they sell garbage and it is tired and boring and cheezy. It is better to get the garbage at the Dollar Store or Wal Mart. They take a piece of junk and slap a Disney logo on it and make it 500 times what it is worth.

I talked with my friend who attended the D23 event. A couple of things he said caught my attention.......


* Crowds were overwhelming. It surprised him because Disney is known for crowd control. (Me - I can't handle crushing crowds and standing in line for 2 1/2 hours to see an event.....no thank you). They did half of what they wanted because of lines --- crushing lines. Saturday morning, for example, they arrived at 7:30 to stand in line. The doors opened at 9 am and they were the last few who actually made it into the event.


*****DVC did not exhist there. He attended the "Parks and Resorts" event and it ended 1/2 hour early without a peep about DVC. He guessed the DVC section of the event was taken out - thus early ending.

Now think about it. The people attending a D23 event are their target audience for DVC. DVC is one of Disney's biggest "fund raisers". I wonder what their sales goals were for the weekend.....before Hawaii's problems surfaced.

It must have hurt a great deal to give up all that sales potential.

In fact...I honestly can't even help to think that they weren't trying to keep there screw up in Hawaii quiet until after this faux event...

The timing was a tad odd...like they were trying to keep their head above the sand in the bottom of the hourglass

At least you got into the Parks & Resort presentation - we waited for 1.5 hrs and were finally turned away!
Got there 2 hrs early for Dick Van **** - and they told us we had 0 chance.

Disney sold out to the Chinese government...'nough sad. that's the main reason were not seeing any love more than the FLE, theyre breaking ground on the Shanghai resort, which apparently will have the biggest Disney castle in the world.

Not just that, but its also said to be the largest, and most interactive Disney park ever. Looks like they're turning this project into a technological flagship for the others...

Of course they sold out...those plushies aren't going to manufacture themselves...

I actually hope the new park will be decent...only because they've opened a string of bad parks since Eurodisney...other than Tokyo sea

unless of course Universal keeps churning out quality rides (Harry Potter expansion anyone?) and they start stealing some of Disney's thunder. But that day may never come.

I don't see DL's Indy Adventure coming to DHS since it has an almost identical ride system to Dinosaur over at AK. Just pray that the Indy Coaster doesn't come over from EuroDisney.

Regarding D23, I don't think that we should have been expecting any big announcements due to the amount of projects in progress, near completion, and recently completed. Star Tours, Mermaid, Cars Land, Aulani, Fantasyland, and Disney Cruise Line are things that Disney wants to create excitement for. Introducing new projects steals the thunder away from these attractions. While that may make us happy, Disney's plan here just makes better marketing sense.

I think it was a little naive to expect any major announcements out of this year's expo, though I suppose because of the number of substantive announcements made in 2009, Disney did this to themselves. The amount of money being spend on Parks and Resorts right now is unprecedented in the company's history. The amount of reinvestment into existing infrastructure and restoration harkens back to the hey-day of the parks. Fans are, by definition, fanatical, and rarely look at things with any objective perspective. If you take a step back and consider what it being done worldwide, it seems to me that Disney is undertaking a fairly massive expansion and revitalization effort; we as fans have a lot to be excited about.

There are MANY rides in the WDW parks which have identical ride systems (Astro Orbiter, Dumbo, Aladdin's Magic Carpets are all in ONE PARK), or similar ride systems, that's no excuse not to add the Indy ride...since the experience is so much different (and so much better) than Dinosaur.

From a purist standpoint, I agree, however from a crowd control standpoint, I'd prefer it in DHS or even AK, the 2 least busy parks.

It wouldn't be bad at all. you could even have a thrill ride. Pigs in Space simulator like star wars. a dark/boat ride like IASW but instead it could be the Manamana song!

1.Sounds Dangerous becomes Master Yodas Jedi Training Academy. An attraction similar to Turtle Talk starring Yoda.

3. Replace Indy Stunt show with a Kuka Star wars ride.

My suggestion for DHS is leave Tower Of Terror and Aerosmith alone. head back around to Pixar Place with TSM. Build a wall all the way over to Star Tours and simply bulldoze everything else and start over again.
