D23 2015

Here's a nifty article containing a whole bunch of pictures from Avatar and Shanghai, all wrapped up here:

I love how the art looks for Shanghai. I think a similar effect could be cool at Epcot, in limited amounts. I don't want to see WS too cluttered with characters.

It does remind me of immersive environments like Epcot, Disney Sea, or DAK. Almost like a next generation of Magic Kingdoms. I'd say there only been two really different molds of MKs, now they've gone radically different in their approach. Pretty neat.

Avatar surprises me, they're going the humans on the planet route. That's gutsy, and I'm impressed. This should be one interesting land! I'm looking forward to more details...

It is looking cooler by the day. James Cameron's stuff, except older movies, tends to annoy me, so we haven't even seen Avatar. I wasn't really looking forward to it; however, I don't have to like the iP to appreciate how cool the technology is and how cool it looks. They are just opening up too many cool things. I don't know if I can convince DH to spend every vacation in Orlando:)

When do you think they will talk about DHS and new name?
Maybe Saturday, maybe sometime in the next 5 years. Sadly, we have no solid idea of the timeframe. On the bright side, we're learning a lot about a brand new land in DAK. Enjoy what we've got, knowing that DHS is moving in the right direction!

I do wonder if those vehicles are comfortable. It looks like an amazing ride anyways.

Remind me, is Marty still an active Imagineer? I wonder what he's talking about. It could be a very minor thing... Or it could be a major addition.
Nah, not in any meaningful way. He retired a couple years back, received a window on Main Street, and then wrote a book. He may still be a consultant, but like Tony Baxter lacks very much real control (if any).

Not to slam this pillar of Imagineering for decades, but he was said to be in large part to blame for Imagineering loosing its way during the late Eisner Era, and also for breeding a culture of fierce competition within WDI. So while still a good face to see, I'm glad he finally headed for the door. I am curious about what he's seen though...

Well I'm a bit more cynical than most.
Here's what rides/attractions I think will be announced:

1.Starbucks the Ride-Presented by Dunkin Donuts: Just the teacups re-branded.

2. MouseFleece: A giant set of white gloved cartoon hands will pick you up by the ankles, turn you upside down and shake until all the money falls out of your pockets.

3. DVC Mainia: A dark ride where all the members of your party will travel through replicas of all the new Villa's to come; for two hours.

4. Your Last Trip Adventure: An immersive experience, you will fly past a decade of rising ticket gate prices. The last stop is next years prices, which you can't afford.

5. Pandora presented by Kilimanjaro Safaris: Disney decides Avatarland is to expensive to complete, since buying LucasFilms, and just paints all the animals blue.

6. Star Wars Carousal of Progress: Same show just all the animatronics will be dressed like Luke, Han, Leia, Chewy (as Rover). Still no one in the queue to get in. Han still shoots second.

7. The Richard Petty Experience will be replaced by a giant gift shop with drive through cashier lanes, which now all traffic needs to pass through to exit.
This is one of the funniest posts I've ever read. Thanks!

Interesting. I didn't know about that. I wish we were more familiar with the internal aspects of Imagineering.

I agree that even if that isn't the case, it's for the good of Imagineering to let him go.

Avatarland is looking pretty cool so far. I hope that we learn even more about what's coming there.

Thanks rteetz for posting so much info.

Somehow...imagineering went from the "just get stuff
Done"darling subdivision of the 50's-early 90's to the distrusted, demeaned, often burdensome to executives thing we have today.

It's all about the stock...because they have shown what can be done regardless of budget and
Schedule when OLC wants something done.

Really a shame...because wed/WDI used to be the shining star of the operation in many ways.

Model of Avatarland sure does look nice and a great fit for animal kingdom although i do wonder just how much appeal it will actually have to the wider market. Im not a fan of the franchise myself

When is the Parks and Resorts conference on?
