This poll is a lot more lopsided than I thought it would be. I am also a Poly voter. We've stayed there a few times and a huge perk to me is having the TTC right there. We really like direct monorail service to Epcot. We've eaten at the GF several times and just don't feel like it's a hotel for us. Normally by visiting a place, we either feel it or we don't. As can be seen by my sig, we've felt "it" at most resorts!

I'm with Tinkerbellie-- right above-- but I'd say whichever you like most. But I wouldn't take 2 weeks (or 3!) at a value/mod for a week at the Poly. Just me. As far as a day or two on such a nice, long stay? No matter. But the Poly is much more relaxed to me.

Poly..and the rooms were just refurbed a few years ago.GF is nice but Poly trumps it hands down.
Um, GF's rooms were refurbed more recently than Poly's.

Coming from someone who practically grew up at the Poly and feels very nostalgic about it, I have to say GF is better. It's just a better resort, better rooms, better service, better restaurants, better room service.

Poly used to be my absolute favorite (you can see from my sig how many trips I've spent there), but I hate the recent changes there and feel that the service has gotten worse. Even Tikiman isn't feeling so optimistic about Poly's future.

Nobody said anything about Poly closing, and many of the problems at Poly won't be solved by more refurbs - did you actually read the link I posted?

Due to cherished Poly traditions and cast members being permanently cut (and service becoming consistently worse), the Poly has transformed into a mediocre establishment that relies on its reputation and on newer visitors who don't remember what it was like before. Granted, Poly has some serious fanatics, people who'll never say a bad thing about the resort no matter what - and that's exactly why Poly can continue to become a worse resort.

Tikiman clearly states that he is not optimistic about service and management problems all across the World, not just at the Poly. The Poly is just one of many.

He also states at the end of the article that he was quite pleased with the Poly's service, amenities, and upkeep on his last trip there.

I'm not going to get into the arguement as to which is better...they are both deluxe resorts. I have stayed at both, but I find the GF to uptight for OUR taste. Our family is looking for a more relaxed atmosphere and did not feel it here at the GF. I believe you can get poor service at both locations because it is a result of your opinion of quality vs. the scenerio vs. the individual cast member(s) personality/attitude at the time of the event.

Pick the resort that will add to the Magic that your family is looking for but don't let it make or break your trip. I hope you have a MAGICAL vacation!

I agree with this 100%. We stayed at the Poly 3 years in a row (2006, 2007, and 2008) and liked it a lot, but after a serious problem due to inept management on our 2008 stay, we decided to try the GF in 2009. What a difference!

And funny enough, we had similar issues at both resorts. In both cases, we ended up with flooded bathrooms due to a messed up toilet with a leaking valve needing repair at the Poly (luckily the water on the floor was clean!)and a leak in the pipe in the wall at the GF. But the difference in how we were treated at the Poly vs. the GF was like night and day.

We stayed at the GF in August and December 2009, and we'll be back there this July/August and December. We will not return to the Poly except to have dinner at Kona or to get a Dole Whip. But we will not pay to stay there again.

So I voted for the GF for 9 nights. But, hey, if you like the Poly, you should stay there.

The difference is, at every other WDW resort I've stayed at recently (GF, CR, BLT, AKL, YC), the cast members have gone out of their way to make us happy. At Poly, more often than not during our recent trips, they've been rather complacent and rude - we should be happy to be at the Poly, god forbid we need help with an issue.

That, and I hate some of the changes at Poly. Each incarnation of the luau has been worse than the one before. I also don't like how the arcade is in the lobby. The longhouses feel old, and although the rooms were refurbished, I don't like the rooms anymore. They're much darker than before, and personally I think the rooms are tacky (CR, GF, YC, BC, and BWI received much better renovations). For those reasons, I wouldn't want to stay at Poly anymore - I can stay somewhere else for the rooms and service, and I can visit Poly once for some atmosphere and a dole whip.

Odd man out here -

13 nights at the Contemporary, based on Mousesavers prices.

All things being the same, more time at Disney.

Rooms are recently refurbished, can walk to the MK, and if I really need a Poly fix it's only a 2 minute monorail ride away.

Not everybody can take 13 days away from work/family/life.

Ok now i can Do

10 nights Grand Floridian Sugarloaf or Themepark
or
10 Night Polynesian Garden View Club level

Sorry, don't agree..I've had excellent stays there, with great service, great mousekeeping, and a nice room. (with a kick-*** view!!)

Whatever floats your boat..I'm detecting a little note of anagonism in a few of your posts and I'm choosing not to play along. We all are entitled to an opinion, no need to get snarky.:confused3 Obviously, you'd vote for GF and that's fine.

I still say Poly and CL if you can do it..they were so accomodating and pleasant.

I know we're all entitled to have our opinions, and I'm not trying to be antagonistic. I wish I could say that the Poly is my favorite resort. For nostalgia's sake (which is one of the best aspects of Disney), Poly should be my favorite. But it would be unfair of me to completely overlook what's changed at the Poly (some of the changes are concrete, others involve a decline in service that my family has noticed).

I know that plenty of people still love the Poly, and there's a lot to like about the place (especially in terms of atmosphere and theme). But, as said by another poster above, the way we're treated at the Poly vs. the way we're treated anywhere else at WDW is like night and day. There's a blatant distinction, and it's resulted in my family's loss of any desire to stay at Poly for a 17th time.

P.S. I'm glad that you had great service, great mousekeeping, a nice room, and a wonderful view. Honestly, of all my stays at the Poly, only twice was I disappointed with the view (a second floor MK view in Tuvalu, and a first floor lagoon view in Aotearoa).
