Cypress Pointe Grand Villa vs. Disney Moderates

I am considering trying for the Cypress Pointe Grand Villas on skyauction or booking through hotelkingdom.com. In the past we have usually stayed onsite at WDW in a moderate hotel like Coronado Springs or Caribean Beach. Does anyone think that we will disappointed with a 2-Bedroom Cypress Pointe Grand Villa after staying on site at Disney?

I figure that there are pluses and minuses with each. The Cypress Pointe Grand Villa seems so cheap compared to a Disney Moderate Hotel even with my Annual Pass rate?

Any thoughts?

I would always choose to stay on-site. To me, thats part of the whole Disney experience. Plus, unless you have a car, you can't beat the transportation.

We stayed at Cypress Pointe(not the Grand Villas) in May. Only place I have stayed at Disney is Fort Wilderness Cabins. We loved the condo. Think about it--the moderates are only a motel room. All the room in a condo is GREAT--plus the kitchen and washer/dryer. Driving to the parks was not a problem as we thought it would be. I vote for the condo!!

We tend to stay offsite when the group is large. We are AP holders so don't pay for parking. Lately, I haven't found EMH to be especially helpful (don't have little ones for Fantasyland) and actually get more done on non-EMH days quicker. I have always thought the magic is what you make it. There are some nice ways to navigate from Cypress Pointe into Disney near POR and Ft W, and I say go for the suite especially if the group is large.

My vote is Cypress Point! I loved it there. As a matter of fact, I was staying at Cypress Point and my best friend was staying at the Port Orleans at the same tim so we went back and forth. I remember saying, many times.... I'm glad we're here and not there! Here are the differences:
Cons:
You won't have the "Disney Magic Feel"
Pool is colder
No good restaurants on site

Pros:
BEAUTIFUL ROOMS!!!!! WAY NICER THAN POL!, lots of space. You can put the kids to bed, sit in the living room, soak in the private jacuzzi, sit on your balcony, spread out!!!! Have a snack in the kitchen, go grocery shopping and fill up the fridge with icecream, cereal, etc. and then sit on your huge sofa and watch your big screen TV.

Activities on property

Location is awsome! Don't take 1-4 to the park, cut through Hotel Blvd. (downtown Disney) and follow the Mickey fingers to the parks. Also, you are right next to about a million restaurants. Very convenient after a long day at the park.

I have stayed on Disney property too. If it was up to me, I'd take CP over a moderate in a heartbeat. Have a great time.

Another vote for Cypress Pointe. Although, I will have to disagree about the pool, it seems to be heated to about 80 degrees all the time, never found the pool to be cold at all (we have only used the volcano pool tho). but will have to agree with the ice cream snacks in your condo! sorry to say, last time I was at CP, I bought the dove double chocolate icecream bars from Publix & it beat the pants off a mickey bar anyday!
Another pro - Winn Dixie grocery storeis less than 1/2 mile away, could almost walk there! Next to it is a Papa Johns Pizza for a late night after the park pizza snack!

I'll be at Cypress Pointe GV from 9-4 to 9-11. This might be too late for you to find something out for your next trip, I don't know. But I'll let you know when I get back all about it.

We've stayed twice at POR and love it there. That was our first on site stay so it has special meaning for us.

Is it just the two of you, or do you have children?? I really do love staying on site, but we are that "dreaded family of 5" that seems often displaced at Disney. We fit at POR, but sardines fit in a can, too! :p And for a lot cheaper, we get a 2 bedrm. condo.

Depends also, what kind of a trip is it? An anniv., just the two of you?? Or.... your second trip this year with kids? Every trip we make is a little different.

Any questions at POR, I can probably answer or the resort board. Good luck!:wave2:

Thank you Mom of Sleepy, Bashful and BabyDoc! I would love to know what you think about Cypress Pointe GV after you return from your trip. We are hoping to go from October 20 - 26th. We will have 5 adults and two toddlers (2 year old and 20 month old).

I keep wondering if we should just book a three bedroom at the CPGV or book three rooms at a Disney Moderate (maybe POFQ) with an Annual Passholder rate (if an AP rate for October ever comes out). Everyone has posted so many postives about the CPGV so I am leaning that way.

You don't have to pay to park if you stay onsite, either. We have stayed both places, and while the "magic" is great onsite, we really liked Cypress Point Grand Villas. We went at the busiest time of the year (new Years) and only went to the parks one day. It was nice to get away from the crowds.
If you have already stayed onsite, and can get a good deal off-site, I would go that route. Maybe the next time, stay onsite. With 2 little kids, it would be nice for you to have a separate living room to go to without disturbing anyone who wants to sleep. Not possible when there is only 1 room.

And if you have AP's, don't you get free parking?? That's a nice perk, especially if you are off site.

daisygarden.........I'll let you know ASAP when we get back. You said you would have 5 adults..........I assume that 5th person would be on the pull out couch?? Are you guys going to be ok with the space?

Ofcourse, you'll have more room than two regular hotel rooms...:p (for a lot cheaper)
