When i got to florida in a few weeks i will be taking my PSP, a camcorder and maybe a portable dvd player........would i have trouble taking or coming back with these items?

As long as you have the original purchase receipts with you there will be no problem.

Don't worry as they can tell where an item was made or for which market ie the camcorder and DVD player will be PAL or region 2 hence not readily available in the US.

When we went out there last year we had 2 digital cameras, a digital video camera and two ipod mini's in out hand luggage amongst other things. They never even gave us a second glance, I'm sure you'll be fine. Those kinds of things will be taken on flights to/from America every day.

The chances of being stopped are very slim anyway so I would take what you want but it is advisable to have original purchase receipts for all expensive items bought anywhere in the world for proof of purchase should you be unfortunate enough to be caught in customs.

That can be difficult if items you take on hoiliday are gifts from a birthday or Christmas!!!

I agree, Claire, as I said the chances of being stopped are slim but IF you can take as much evidence as you can it does help, especially if you get an "enthusiastic" customs officer! It's worth bearing in mind that the burden of proof is always your responsibility and up to you to prove that it was not recently purchased on your holiday.

as another poster mentioned, it's usually very obvious on which side of the ocean these things are purchased (due to broadcasting differences)....

so you shouldn't have any problem..

however, if anyone is planning on bringing something they previously purchased in the US to the US and back with them, and they no longer have the receipt, they probably can register it with customs.....i don't know if you can do this in the UK, but i assume you can since you can do it in the US, Canada and where i live now...i assume all customs authorities have the same arrangement...you get your piece of electronic equipment, whatever it is, registered with customs as already belonging to you....so that when you come back home and cross customs again, and if they bring it up, you can show them the customs form...
for example, one year i had a laptop purchased in the US....so i kept the customs form in the pocket of the laptop case so that every time i came back home i had it with me if i was questioned about the laptop...

HMCE can tell from the model/serial number that it was UK purchased.

From the other side, I bought a new digital camera in Wal*Mart last trip and declared it on return. I was charged the VAT on the US price and advised to carry the HMCE receipt for future trips to show that they had had their cut!

Print the invoice that the seller sends to you on-screen via Ebay - and your Paypal payment advice if you have used this method.

I would suggest that you contact HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) to find out exactly what evidence you need.

the number is 0845 010 9000 (+44 208 929 0152 outside UK).

If you do a search on customs, you get directly to their website and it includes details about paying VAT on goods bought on the Internet etc.
