Custom T-shirts?

I have a brownie troop that I would like to get t-shirts for. We can decorate the front ourselves, but I wanted to have the troop number on the back in block letters. Does anyone know of a company that will do this inexpensively? I looked at the iron on transfer paper but it looks like it is printed on a white background and probably won't look very good if I try to cut black letter out on it. Any suggestions?

Google 'screen printing' and look for a business within your local area that screen prints tees. For a single color print project like what you are talking about, it shouldn't cost more than about $5 to $7 per completed t-shirt. And if you go local, you can usually arrange to pick up your completed order (which saves you from paying extra $ for shipping).

I have done a lot of custom apparel design work, and the screen printed tees tend to be a far better quality than any sort of heat transfer or direct print method.

I do not recommend heat transfers. I have done them myself and done them at kiosks in the mall...always disappointed and they just don't last.

You could use "light" transfer paper--so no white shows up and you don't have to trim as much. Or trim out the numbers on the opaque transfer paper (so no white surrounds it) and it looks great.

Transfers, even the best quality ones don't hold up well.

Here is what I have done with my troops (I am down to 1 now but have had as many as 3!)

Take white t-shirts, with tape block out what you want it to say Like TROOP 123 or whatever. Then mix acrylic pain in water (like a small bottle to a 2 ltr bottle of water) and put in a spray bottle and have them spray the shirts generously. You can use multiple colors. When it's dry remove the tape and you have the letters and numbers in white. They are cute, colorful and cheap (the paint is often on sale 3/$1 at craft stores.)

I just made my family some really cute shirts for our upcoming trip to DL. I did freezer paper stencils. They turned out sooo cute, and so neat and tidy!
