I'm currently working on custom t-shirts for our family's upcoming Disney trip in December. Each family member picked their favourite character, so we each have a character, our first name and the text "Walt Disney World 2008". The shirts are different colours but all long sleeved and similar styles.

Are we totally cheesy for doing this? We are all adults and my brother is super embarrassed by his and says he will only wear it one day.:rotfl: Everyone else in the family is on board though. I think the shirts are cute and will make a great souvenir once we're back.

Now, how many people share the same opinion as my brother on this one? Either way, we're heading to Disney with our family shirts, but I just wanted to see what others though. Every time I see families with custom tees, I think how cute they are.:lovestruc And I'm excited to finally have some of our own!

The DIS probably isn't the best place to poll on whether or not custom t shirts are going "overboard" on a WDW vacation:rotfl2: , but I'm curious anyway.popcorn::

I think they are both! I wouldn't dream of wearing matching clothes anywhere else but WDW. But is is so-o much fun wearing them there!

:lmao: I have purchased matching character shirts (one for each of us, for each day we're there) for our family's upcoming Disney vacation. Hubby is 6' 4" tall and 270 pounds.....not exactly the kinda guy you'd normally see decked out in Mickey Mouse :rotfl: DS is 5' 9" tall (and a very "cool" 12 years old) and though he wouldn't be caught dead wearing Donald Duck to school, he had lots of fun picking his shirts out online. The "rules" change when you're in Disney.....you can get away with a lot more than you do in your regular, humdrum life! :dance3:

I say go for the shirts......anything to help add to the magic is just fine in my book. :thumbsup2

This type of thread is a better fit on the theme parks community board, so I'm going to move it over there.

I think they are cheesy and cute BUT......

I don't want to match every day and I don't want 10 tshirts with my name and the family vacation info.

We have matching shirts for one day of our trip (2nd MK day when we do Toontown). For all other days, we have Disney themed shirts. We each picked our favorite characters. I found some great tshirts at the DisneyStore clearance sale for practically nothing and I'm also making a few custom shirts.

Is it too late to allow a little individuality for your brother? Could you make some of his tshirts a little less matching? Always have him in a matching color but without matching pics. Use sayings like, "I don't do matching shirts" or "I'm with them". Use a design of a character dressed as his sports team or just put the word "Disney" somewhere.

Have you been to the DiSign board? They have some awesome ideas! Very creative over there!

Oh, I'd definitely torture him with a few matching shirts.....he's your brother and it's your job to torture him a bit.

Heck ya they are cheesey, but we still make a family shirt for each trip. I would never do this anywhere else, but at Disney it is OK. In fact, we make it a point to get many photos taken in those matching shirts. This year it is white Ts with an African print Mickey head (staying at AKV).

I also have a fanny pack style camera case that I wouldn't be caught dead in anywhere else. Something about Disney makes it OK.:goodvibes

I think it's a great idea! I have gone on family trips and we've all had matching WDW t-shirts....My DBF and I have matching Halloween Disney shirts we are wearing next week....Who cares if some people think it's cheesy?

I think they are both. My sister made me wear one for her b-day trip a few weeks ago. They were cute, but dressing in identical shirts with your sister when your 25 is slightly cheesy. Oh well, we had fun!

Yes! We're going for it.:cool1: The approval of the DIS is all I need to justify anything.:rotfl2:

I compromised a little, so our shirts aren't completely matching. My dad's has Donald Duck, my mother's has Snow White (with her favourite quote from Wishes), my brother has Mickey with a Miami Dolphins theme, and I have Mickey and Minnie with the "it was all started by a mouse..." quote. The shirts are white, grey, red and pink. I would love to have matching family shirts but... I know nobody would go for that.:rotfl: I guess this is going to have to be good enough!

I think they are cute to a certain degree. I guess it depends on the shirt!!

I think they're cute, but, like the previous poster said, it depends on the shirt.

We match when we are down there and I LOVE IT!!!!
I've said this on DIS before, but when I was a kid I was an only child raised by my grandparents. They are WONDERFUL people but I always felt like I was missing on the "family" part of life. When I'd go to Disney I would zero in on the families in the matching t-shirts (it wasn't as common back then, but you saw some.) I always thought that was so darn cute and thought I was going to do that some day with my family and now I do. My DD14 doesn't love it, but DH explains that this is a deep issue from my childhood that she needs to go along with, and in an effort to make her happier about it, she helped me design one for this trip. Is it cheesy, probably, but so would be walking around with giant ears on your head but something about doing it in Disney makes the cheesy so much fun! Do we dress alike in everyday life, no, but we do everyday in Disney!

My opinion is that matching shirts is kind of cheesey but that didn't stop my bestfriend and I from wearing them one day. They weren't exactly the same. Her's had tink on it with the word "best" and mine had mickey on it with the word "friends" along with a mickey icon. We had a photopass cm take a pic of the back of our shirts for us infront of the castle :)

We're hittin' the Christmas Parade on 11/10 -- and I ordered matching shirts that say "I believe" with a Santa hat on the end for all of us .... don't care if they like them or not, it wasn't too baby for the DH and not too grown up for the actual 19 mo old baby!!

We're hittin' the Christmas Parade on 11/10 -- and I ordered matching shirts that say "I believe" with a Santa hat on the end for all 5 of us .... don't care if they like them or not, it wasn't too baby for the DH and super cool 12 year old and not too grown up for the actual 19 mo old baby!!

The answer is both. We had shirts for our trip 2 weeks ago, and got loads of comments. We had Baloo on our shirts, and when King Louie in AK saw he was not on our shirts he threw a fit. He kept banging the awning we were under for pictures making dust & crap fall. He was pouting in chairs banging his hands together. Meanwhile Baloo loved it and we got a little extra attention. Cast members and Guests all over thought they were cool to. We're going again in the spring and have decided to do 1 for each park.

I think they are great! However, I can only get the gang to wear them one day. My favorite were the ones we made for our trip one March. They were black (don't know why, but never again, we just about melted in that Florida Sun!) and said "I'm a pirate!"
