Hi everyone. I am knew to this forum. So I am hoping some of you experts can help me out. I want to have custom cabinets made for my scrapbooking room. This would be on a wall that would stretch the length of approx. 8 feet. I am curious if anyone else has had custom cabinets made. Or has anyone designed a scrapbook room. Right now my scrapbook room is a disaster as it also has become the dumping ground for everything else There is no organization as many of the containers I have are a mix match of everything. So if anyone has photos of thier awesome rooms or can provide some insight on my future project please chime in.

There is a thread on here somewhere with pictures of folks scrapping rooms/areas. I'll try to hunt it up for you.

As far as the custom thing goes... I haven't done it, but I would think you would want it adjustable in some ways. Scrapping aparatus changes over time and I wouldn't want shelves built just to fit my 12 x 12 books only to find out in two year that the big trend is 15 x 15! (Not that that is likely to happen, but you never know). Plus you could eventually give up scrapping, or change from paper scrapping to digital... you would definitely want something built in that could function perhaps as a home office area in the future, just in case.... or in case of re-sale.

I have considered building shelves into a little cubby area where I currently house most of my scrap stuff on a book shelf and in plastic drawers. Unfortunately I have a window that would definitely interfere with built-ins, so I am keeping what I have, for the moment. It allows the window to be somewhat un-interfered with and still function as a window (although I keep the shade drawn all of the time so that the sun doesn't fade my scrap stuff!).

Good luck with whatever you decide.................P

I use an old antique hotel desk that holds all my albums. Keep in mind when you do to design your space that albums weigh a lot (at least mine do). The shelfing will need to be strong.

I got my shelf unit at Ikea. It is perfect for me for my scrapbooking. I will try to take a picture of it and post it. I am new at this, I might need help from my husband to get the picture on here.

Well first we need to know more info about you.
do you prefer open shelves or cabinets like kitchen cabinets?
Do you like to see your tools, papers, etc or does everything have to be put away out of sight?
do you like boxes, or jars, or plastic totes? Boxes can be stacked so taller shelves would work, but if you like jars you would need more shelves since they can't be stacked.

I gotta run but I will post pics of my space this afternoon. In the mean time check out www.twopeasinabucket.com search for scrap spaces, there are tons and tons of ideas.

You are right! I would like a combo of kitchen like cabinets and a few open shelves. And I should add that I would also like to use it as an office for the computer. I dont care for the basket, boxes, hanging wire racks. I like the solid cabinets to hide everything. But I dont want my scrapbook/office to look like another kitchen without the appliances. Does this help.

thanks for the help on uploading pictures, I am going to try it tonight. It sounds easy to do after watching the video tutorial.

helps a lot!
It does sound like you would want kitchen cabinets but what if you picked a cabinet door with maybe some frosted glass doors or rice paper lined doors that would soften the look and look less kitchen like.

Pottery Barn has some nice pieces that could be used as office space like here, the corner desk.
