Curves or a Gym?

Hi Everyone!
I'm more of a lurker than participant on these boards. I'm really struggling to get on track with dieting, etc. I am a member of Curves and I really like it, but have been considering making a switch to a gym for several reasons. Our Curves cut out Saturdays for the summer because of low attendance, and this was a killer for me because Saturdays is one of my days that I never missed. They just started the Saturdays back up. Because for various reasons, I sometimes can't make all the evening workouts, I really missed the Saturdays. Anyway, I was thinking of joining a gym which I could attend on Sundays as well, plus has later hours during the week. I also feel that maybe I am getting bored with Curves. I have been a member for a while. Has anyone made the switch and how did they like it? Thanks everyone.

Hi Tigger and Welcome!!

I've been writing on these WISH boards for a few weeks and LOVE it. These people are what modivate me on a daily basis to get to my goal.

Anyways... I had looked into Curves over a year ago when I was just getting started with working out and trying to lose weight. I liked that I could get through a whole body workout in 20-30 minutes, but I thought after awhile, I would get bored. They built a Lady Fitness (like 24 Hour Fitness) right outside our subdivision and I joined them right when they opened. I love the variety of workouts that I can do. Sometimes I do weights and then get on the treadmill. Other days I do just cardio or maybe a class. I tend to get bored doing the same thing, especially when I'm working out 5 days a week.

Good luck

Teresa

Welcome to WISH, Tigger7570! I'm so glad you found us and I hope you can visit often. No more lurking, though, Okay?

I think that as long as you are working out it doesn't matter where you work out. Right now I just work out at home.

Get moving and you will find success!

You need to figure out what you want to do and what you think you will stick with.

Keep these things in mind though: Doing the same exercises over and over again do not have the same results of changing up routines. For example, my strength training includes free weights, weight machines and exercises using my own weight (lunges, etc.) I also switch up my cardio routines (step aerobics, jogging, elliptical machine, etc.) The reason variety IS important is because over time your body gets used to the same workout. I know a lot of people here have had success with Curves, but I do believe there is a point where most (if not all) will reach a plateau, where they do not see the results they are hoping for. I believe Curves to be a good starting place, but that one will need to move on at some point.

I love my gym. It is a local gym where I know everyone. I go before work, and it's just great.
