I'm drowning in visions of window treatments for our new house!

Yesterday I went shopping with my mom for window treatments. I'm more confused now than I was before. Do I want sheers for the living room? semi sheer? very sheer? do I want single panels or pairs?

Do I want tab tops in the family room? or not? And for the eating area? Sheers? curtains?

And why does it all have to be so expensive?

I think I'm just going to buy LOTS of those tape on Redi-Sheers and be done! :)

SAVE ME.............................from the curtain monster................

One bonus.....we did buy Buzz Fabric for my mom to make curtains for Ds's room! They will be so excited...........I hope

When we moved into our new house, we just bought the same pleated shades for all the windows for privacy. Then, I did each room as time went on. It took me awhile to make decisions, so I liked taking it one room at a time. It's still not all done, but I know when the room is done, it's what I wanted. Making all the decisions for all the rooms at one time would have made me crazy.

Good luck!

My dining area is driving me crazy. We have two large windows in that area with white wooden shutters. They are at right angles to each other and I'm at a loss at what would look best. So I can relate.

We also have those small windows next to the front door and I don't know how to handle those. DH tried to frost them but ended up getting more on the wood molding than the windows. Needless to say, I removed the stuff in a hurry. :o

Barb, Why don't you just hang Disney sheets over all the windows and let the neighbors know what they're in for!!!:jester:

TC:cool:

Why put up curtains? The cats just pull them down anyway, and break the antique glass lamps that your grandmother gave you before she died two years ago.

Planogirl, for those small windows on the side of your door....you can hang sheers made especially for side-light windows. They are fastened at the top and bottom and they look real nice.

Pembo, I agree that you should take your time picking out curtains, etc. I've been in my new house for almost 3 years and it took me 2 1/2 to finally get curtains everywhere. I actually only have curtains in the living room. I really like the look of scarf valances so I have them in most of my rooms. You can really dress them up or have them casual in the family room. They have all kinds of fabrics and textures, but they are expensive. If you sew, you can easily make some out of sheets....even Disney ones!

I've thought about something that sounds similar for our French door that leads into the backyard. It never occurred to me that I could find something narrow enough for the little side windows but this gives me something to work on. Thanks WeirdEyes!

I was lucky, the former owner of my house left all of the curtains on the first floor for us. Granted, in the formal living and dining rooms, they were orange to match the carpet, but in the family room they were tan, custom-made curtains. After 9 years, they are still hanging, although I had to have one panel repaired after the last time I washed them.

When we took the orange ones down, a friend of mine, who's an interior designer, came over to help me pick new ones. We redid the two rooms, with her help, but when it came time to have the curtains made, I got the most reasonable estimate in at $4,400! This was for two double-hungs and one bay window.

So, the moral of my story is that we still have the sheers up that were under the orange curtains. I know that I have to finally replace them, but I can't come up with anything other than another set of sheers... for far less than $4,400.

Good luck in your quest, Pembo!
