DH and I had been dreaming of owning a RV but those were dreams for the far off distant future. Last year we rented a cabin at the fort during Christmas and fell in love with all of FW. Our favorite activity was doing the loops in the golf cart. DH would drool over all the various RVs. He pestered me and tried to sell me on the top reasons we should buy now. " See if we had a RV you could be decorating it like all these people do". "If we owned a Rv we could bring our dog" etc.

Flash forward to March and we are attending multiple RV shows in the freezing Chicago land area. We finally found the motor home for us. Bad news, it was in Boston which meant a long road trip home without driving anything longer than a mini van. We survived that road trip and have many more under our belt but are still serious newbies. Staying at the fort and seeing everyone having so much fun camping was the motivation we needed to make our dream happen sooner rather than waiting for that "some" day that may never come.

I scored a reservation to be at the Fort during Christmas so I'm prepping for that long road trip and all the new experiences we will have. I don't even care if I set foot in any of the parks I just want to put up my Christmas lights and enjoy seeing festive things at FW

So if you see a Tiffin Allegro with Illinois plates having trouble getting into our spot, please try not to laugh too loud at our rookie driving skills.

How do I find out what site I have or do they assign when you arrive?

Congrats on the RV!

They'll assign you a site once you arrive. Of course, you'll be able to narrow down what loop you might be in by looking at the loop numbers in the loop category that you booked (ex/ If you booked a preferred, you know that you'll be in 100, 200, or 300).

Have fun at the Fort! We're hoping to make a Christmas trip within the next couple of years.

We found FW after buying the RV. However, FW made convincing my husband to return to WDW (9 months after the first trip ) less than a 5 minutes conversation instead of a two year process (the original plan was to wait that long).

As for laughing at you getting into your spot... read this. I hope it gives you a chuckle.... I'm sure it entertains our neighborhood!

Welcome to the ranks, anyone who buys an rv because of Fort-love is definitely a Fort Fiend! In addition to all the inflatables, lights and decorations you are planning to bring, may I suggest one more item: if you are staying in a full or preferred get an indoor/outdoor rug, it'll make a big difference as to how much sand ends up in that nice, new rv. We got a 6x10 rug at walmart for $50. Worth every penny.

I booked a premier because that's all that was open. I'll have to do some exploring because I'm not familiar with all the loops. On our last visit we were so overwhelmed with all the fun and festive decorations that I didn't pay any attention to loop numbers.

I can't even begin to decorate like the professionals that I saw at FW. It was so wonderful and magical. I bow down to the awesomeness of it all.

I will get the mat for sure. Thanks for the tip. Looking at the "show us your campsite" photo thread as also added to my "must buy list" like a tablecloth cover for the picnic table. Some of y'all have some serious set ups!:santa:

* Looking through your blog and I discovered we have the same set of dishes! Those are fantastic for RV travel, light yet stylish. You have good taste!

Congrats on the RV! We started camping because we wanted to take our dog with us. She loved it.

The Fort did however make us buy a golf cart. My husband said we HAD to have one. :rotfl:

Congrats and
:welcome:

There are far worse things in life than being bitten by the Fort/RV bug to be sure.

Hope you enjoy your new home away from home!! :goodvibes

:welcome:

It certainly sounds like you've got a bad case of Fort Fever! Lucky for you, there is no cure. ;) Oh sure, the symptoms will fade while you are there in December, but as soon as your new RV leaves Disney property the symptoms will return. :confused3 It is a hopeless situation that most of us just learn to live with. :cloud9:

Have a super time in your new RV and on your trip to the Fort!

You have great taste too! I can't say enough about the mugs it comes with. Even though they are stoneware... it's a great mug for morning coffee!

redshoe9: I sense some excitement in your post. Congrats on the new RV. When will you be at FW? We'll be there Dec 12-Jan 2 or so. Hope to see you there. We'll have green ears on display, a red light Mickey lamp, and 20-30 inflatables as our site space allows. Merry Christmas and Happy RVing!!!

Don't worry about being a rookie driver. None of us were born pros.
I'm sure that there will be some NEW friends to help if you need it.
Enjoy your new life style.

Welcome aboard Red!

Have a great trip, insure you slow yourselves down take some “off days”

and really enjoy the fort. Hey, how about some pre-trip RV pics.

Congrats! Happened to us as well. Bought a new F150 fist and then a used Jayco 23B hybrid. We went camping last weekend and it reminded me how much I love camping and to be honest the Fort!! We need to get back there soon.

Congrats on the RV!! I've been dreaming of getting one for years and years! Actually, my dream would be to have an airstream TT but DH is more of a Class A Motorhome kinda guy! Unfortunately, we have a tent budget, so we just make do! But, hopefully, we will work our way up!

How exciting to go for Christmas!! :) You will have a wonderful time! Looking forward to seeing some pics! I can't wait until we get to visit FW.. Maybe it will help my DH decide that we need an RV too!

Amen.

Ha ha! You sound exactly like us. We stayed at the Fort in a cabin last September and we loved it so much. As soon as we got home I booked a campsite for this October and we planned to buy an RV. We went to a couple of RV shows but decided to hold off on buying one because DH is in the military and we don't know where we'll be moving to next (Hawaii was a possibility).

I booked our hotel room for our trip and after seeing how much it was going to cost we revisited the RV again. We ended up buying the one we'd been looking at all along 2 days later. We got it just before labor day and have been camping 4 times. We just got back from 10 days at the Fort and it was amazing. I'm trying to get reservations for New Year's and we're planning on going back 3 or 4 times this year! Now, we're looking at buying a bigger truck too so that we can buy a golf cart too (current truck isn't big enough). I curse the Fort too, but love it even more! ;)

I hope you have a wonderful time camping at the Fort. I know you'll love it!!!

I will totally post pics of the pre trip adventure- we are taking a cruise followed up by the 4 days at the fort. So it's going to be a whirlwind of different types of packing- certain items for the cruise and then items for Disney. I have lots of video and pics of our Rv that we took on our recent trip w my flip camera so I'll have to figure out how to post the pics here.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the RV has no problems on the long road trip from Illinois to Florida :woohoo:

We will be at the fort from Dec 23rd - Dec 26. Short and sweet because we were just going to passing through on our way back home and then I called and was lucky enough to find a opening at the Fort. :dance3:

The Fort atmosphere is fantastic and I'm not alone when I say that just being at the fort is almost better than any of the Disney parks!
