Current UY points purchasing direct

The second guide also had to talk to management about an Oct UY, which they denied and were offering April or September. For me, if I'm paying the premium of going direct I'd like to be able to choose my own UY and getting current UY points. But this whole process of going back to management to ask permission and not being clear about why I can't be sold that UY really rubs me the wrong way. If they don't have the UY to sell because they don't have those points to sell then just tell me straight up (which I'm starting to believe less and less after hearing some of the posts above), don't make it a show of getting approval and trying to push me towards something I don't want. I'll settle for resale at other resorts for now and probably just add a small direct or resale contract Riviera in the future.

While I'm all about not trusting DVC, DVCM, or DVD as far as I can throw them, I think this might be related to the increased buy-backs through ROFR we have been seeing lately at some resorts. My guess is that their available stock for any use year at the "sold out" resorts fluctuates on a daily basis and is somewhat dependent on what has been clawed back through ROFR, and how much. As the saying goes, they can't sell what they don't have, and that's why they will ask if you want to go on a wait list for a specific use year when buying direct: there is inventory getting clawed back on a daily basis, but they obviously can't foresee what contracts will pop up in ROFR that they can grab.

I think "talk to management" is a euphemism for the process of checking to see what has been freed up through ROFR and getting permission to sell it, understanding that there may be people already on a wait list for the specific use year in question.

Yea, makes total sense for the sold-out resorts, but I was inquiring about Riviera. Although I could also understand if they sold off points from their declared inventory for cash rooms there. They didn't ask about putting me on a wait list or inquiring about contacting me again in Oct 2021, but I can see them calling me anyway to see if I'm still interested then, which at that point it'd be a hard no. Not only would there be no 2020 points, but would also most likely be paying full price (or closer to it) since their current incentives end today and per the guide yesterday prices/incentives never get better. Which reminds me, the whole interaction gave me such used car salesman vibes, with the pushing towards something I wasn't interested in and questioning why I would want a particular UY, talking things over with managers, cautioning against resale with restrictions (which we're aware of and even still interested in a RIV resale at the right price). Nothing felt magical about the interactions. I think resale for one of the O14 that we're also interested in is the way to go for now and adding direct or finding a nice small resale contract for RIV.
