Current turn-around time for getting a US pasport?

We were told 4-6 weeks in the Seattle area. The normal expedite fee of $60 is only getting it bumped to 2-3 weeks. I'm really not happy about the expediting bc the 6 week mark is just days beyond when we are going, but since we are flying to Canada this time the kiddo has to have the passport.

FWIW, I applied for mine on August 18 (brought my paperwork, etc into the local PO) and had the passport in hand September 5th. This was for a new passport (not a renewal) and it was for a book, not a passport card. I did NOT pay for expedited............P
