Anyone know what the current status of Luxo at the Studios is? I’ve heard a report that it broke down some time back and has yet to be fixed. :confused3

Also I’ve heard a report that Luxo Jr., the squeaky desk-lamp character created by animation guru John Lasseter 23 years ago, is in the spotlight again -- under the glare of a transatlantic lawsuit.

Norwegian lamp maker Luxo filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court in New York accusing Pixar and parent Walt Disney Co. of infringing its copyright by selling a limited-edition Luxo Jr. lamp packaged with a Blu-ray version of the Disney/Pixar movie "Up."

Luxo said in the suit that the sale of the Pixar lamps would "cause devastating damage to Luxo."

I moved this to the Rumor and News Board Thanks Rich

What a Joke..Pixar/Disney using it could only help them.

To claim it would be devastating Damage is an lawyer made up excuse
to try to get money from Pixar.

Ok, I'll bite. Who (or what) is "Luxo at the Studios"?

Thanks.

Luxo Jr is the Lamp that is the symbol of Pixar and the basis for their
first short film.

that is sooooo cool........thanks for sharing the link....

where is this located? is it continuous? sorry, I just have no idea...

thanks again.

From what I understand, he was in fact damaged at some point and required repairs. Some faulty programming was blamed for the damage, and they are still testing the new programming which may explain his intermittent appearances.

As for the lawsuit, I don't think they cared so much about the animation, and perhaps not so much about LJ at DHS, but apparently Disney has produced some "toy" lamps that are being included as extras with the Up DVDs and such, and THAT gets into an area that could invite a lawsuit...

Luxo returns to action at the Studios
Sep 11, 2009

Luxo (the animatronic figure) has now returned to daily action at Pixar Place in Disney's Hollywood Studios. He was introduced back in July of 2009, but after a brief appearance was out of service for sometime. He appears roughly every 15 minutes, and performs a 2 to 3 minute set. He also performs a special night version where he conducts the Pixar Place lights.
