I've read on here about a new refillable mug system that will prevent people from using unauthorized mugs or reusing Disney mugs in subsequent trips. Is this system in place yet, specifically at OKW??

The reason I ask is that I want to reuse the mugs we got last year....now before I start getting flamed, let me explain!! We've gotten the Dlx Dining plan the last 2 trips which include the mugs and we will be getting the Dlx plan again this coming May. I already have 10 mugs from the previous 2 trips and I don't really want or need another 5 mugs!! I didn't mind getting new mugs this past year (May 2011) as they were different from our 2009 trip. However, I believe the mugs have not changed since out last trip so we don't need new ones, even though we are paying for them. I don't think there is anything wrong with my plan since I am paying for new mugs and therefore the refills.

It would be great if there was a system that could just re-activate the old mugs for a new fee, which ideally would be less than the original cost, but I don't believe that is the case.

Thoughts??

I love your idea, as we live in Orlando and stay at the resorts for a weekend about every other month.

It would be great to pay a lower price and be able to reuse our mugs... and it would certainly be friendlier to our environment!

Disney, are you listening?!

I can definitely say there is no system like that in place at POP Century... Our past two drips we've done DxDDP, but this trip we did regular Dining. Unfortunately, regular Dining does *NOT* include a free refillable mug (didn't realize this until check-in :confused3).... We paid $14.99 per mug per person and used them daily. It sorta upset us because all around there were TONS of people who used old WDW mugs (same one's we got in 2008 on our honeymoon...), used regular coffee cups, reusable cups, and even plastic cups - all getting free drinks and coffee...

I was at CSR Nov 26th-Dec 4th and saw the exact same thing. People were filling up all kinds of things (their own huge coffee thermoses, old mugs, even empty water bottles with soda). At Cafe Rix the mug stations are directly in front of the two cash registers, so only like three steps away. The CMs never said a word. Now I was there last year and was surprised to see two different CMs on three different mornings tell people they could not use those old mugs and must purchase new ones, but not this trip.:sad2:

My understanding is the new mugs with bar codes are only being used at AS Sports at this time. I don't mind purchasing new mugs, because I always get my money's worth out of them down there. My thing is that I like to sit by the quiet pool and read with a soda. Those mugs don't hold enough and I won't stop reading to get up and walk all the way back over to food court to refill it.:rotfl: I'd like to be able to bring a mug back (going several times a year I have several of each style---including four of the current beach themed ones:rotfl:) and be able to use it in conjunction with a new one, so I wouldn't have to make so many trips back to the food court. Either that or I wish they'd sell those bigger mugs CSR used to. The ones that hold a day's worth of soda. I think CSR used to sell the smaller mugs for like $12.00 and the huge ones for like $20.00. I wouldn't mind paying the $20.00 if it would save me the trips back and forth to the food court. I know I could just sit at the main pool and have it refilled at the pool bar, but I prefer sitting at the quiet pool, but want enough soda in the mug to last awhile.

Why not just usenthe new ones you will be given and then leave them behind when you leave? Seems easier than bringing old ones back.

I suppose we could but my concern is the waste/environmental factor....if we just left them behind they would probably end up in the garbage.

Undoubtedly, Disney would recycle them. They have a massive recycling program at WDW.

I had read a post that I thought was a nice idea, the person donated their old WDW mugs to a local thrift shop, like Salvation Army or something. The kids would love getting a disney Mug.

I have rarely seen people refilling with old mugs, occasionally, but not always. Only once did i see people refill with large bottles :sad2:

I just give the mugs from the DLXplan to children in our neighborhood. They love them :lovestruc
We never use them because we have the DXL plan and stay on CL so no need but they are lovely gift for those that will never visit WDW.:cutie:

Perhaps you could find another family that doesn't get them with a Dining Plan and give them the new mugs. :thumbsup2

Although your intentions are good, this wouldn't work. If they're given 4 mugs & they bring 4 mugs from home, then 8 mugs are being used (4 of which shouldn't be). (I'm just guessing at the # of mugs, not sure how many people are going on this trip.)

yeah but they're stealing and you're not.
Bwahahaha. I always think it's funny when people are too afraid(?) to post under their own name & make a fake name to post. Regardless, I do agree with your comment.
