Hi guys! I'm a current Disneyland cast member doing the college program and living in housing, and I just figured I would offer to take any questions you guys have about the program in Disneyland! People on here were very helpful while I was applying, however I talked to way more WDW people so for those of you planning on doing the program in California, please feel free to use me as a resource!

My son will be checking in this August! We are really undecided about having a car. We live on the east coast, so it would be about a week and $$ to get his car out there, then we have to think about the trip back in January. We want him to experience as much as he can while he is there and not be stuck in his apartment, but there is gas money, maintenance, and everything else that goes with a car.

What is your opinion about the need for a car? Thanks SO much!

Karen

Sorry I didn't see this earlier!

I'm from the east coast as well, so I understand that bringing a car would be difficult and expensive. However, if you are willing to put out the money and time to do that, I think having a car here is very beneficial.

The College Program provides you with a free bus pas, good for all Orange County Transportation buses. There is a bus stop about 2 blocks away from the housing, but sometimes it's unreliable. I usually leave my apartment about an hour before my shift (and that's if I'm already wearing a costume) just to make sure I get there on time, even though it's only about a 5-8 minute trip once you are on the bus. Also, the buses stop running around a little after 1 am, so if your shift gets out late, it's difficult to get home. Also, waiting for the buses when they come late at night is a pain. The benefit of taking the bus, however, is that you do earn money just for taking it! You can also earn this commuter assistance money through carpooling, walking, biking, etc.

In addition to just transpiration to work, though, are all of the things to do in the area! There are a ton of places that I've wanted to visit but I feel limited because I don't have a car and therefore have to rely on friends to drive me places like the beach or LA or just shopping in the area. Usually they are down, but it would be nice to have some freedom.

Tell your son good luck, it's amazing out here, and please let me know if you have other questions!
