I'm a seasonal employee at my local Disney store. I have been open on willing to stay part-time after the season is over. Working for Disney has actually been pretty good!

No matter what happens, I do want to stay with Disney. I'm already out of college (graduated five years ago), so, internships are out of the question (even the professional ones seem to require you to be in college).

My goal is to grow within Disney and get a professional job. I already have a good 7+ years worth of professional experience in my chosen field.

Even if I'm not asked to stay, I'm hoping my stint at my local Disney Store would still be a nice touch when I apply for professional jobs within Disney.

Has anyone been in a similar predicament as myself? Starting off as a Disney Store employee and moving up? Moving up in Disney I heard is polarizing; either it's nearly impossible or they hire from within.

Don't work for Disney, but seems you are confusing 'getting hired' with 'getting promoted'..............two different things. There is no such thing as 'hire from within' since those working there already have a job. All companies eventually need to get new employes from the outside as others retire/quit or perhaps some part of the company is expanding.

Have you submitted an application for a full-time position? That is where I would start.

Lots of variables here

Does your store have a history of keeping the seasonal staff part time after the season? January / February is usually the down time in retail, so companies usually have a bare bones staffing level for after the Christmas season. Even if you have been the most exceptional staff member, keeping you on as a part timer may put them over budget. Its all about the cold hard cash. Most retail have a payroll budget, and if there is not enough revenue then staff have to go.

Staying with Disney is one this BUT you do realise that Disney is the corporate name for many different divisions. Disney Store is just a division belonging to The Walt Disney Corporation. Having The Disney Store on your resume is just a good indicator that you are the type of person who works well in the Walt Disney Corporation. When you finish working with The Disney Store, you cant just "transfer " to say a Disney parks position. You would have to apply as new new hire, the same as everyone else.

This experience in your chosen field, does it correspond DIRECTLY to a position in Disney?? For example, someone with 7 years experience working in the housekeeping department of a Marriot Hotel, would have almost the same skills required for Mouskeeping at Disney, it would just be company policies and procedures that would be different.

Even if I'm not asked to stay, I'm hoping my stint at my local Disney Store would still be a nice touch when I apply for professional jobs within Disney.
Having The Disney Store on your resume is just a good indicator that you are the type of person who works well in the Walt Disney Corporation. It work in your favour, yes, as the hiring person would know that you already have been trained in some of the same company policies and procedures.

Starting off as a Disney Store employee and moving up? Moving up in Disney I heard is polarizing; either it's nearly impossible or they hire from within.

You would not be moving up or transferring, you would be an entry level new hire. You just have worked at a different divison of the same corporation. It would be different payroll, different HR, different hiring department, different training etc etc.

If you are working for the Disney Store you are technically may not working for Disney. Disney licensees the rights to Disney Stores to the Children's Place. Unless things have changed there are only a small number of stores actually run by Disney.
