did you do high school visitation? or did you shadow a friend? how was it? i am shadowing my friend this week! i am sooooooooooooo excited! then visitation is like after school so............yeah. but did you do high school visitation? i am kinda nervous................. :worried: :( :sad2: :guilty: ;)

Nopers.
We don't have visitation until May. It's called May Day, and then there's a dance that 8th graders are allowed to attend. I don't think we have the shadow a friend program, and even if we did none of my friends are in HS with the exception of one who is a senior in a different HS. And my brother would hate the idea of me being at his school.

nope. I didn't set foot in the highschool except for my IEP meeting (I'm in the gifted programs, so in 8th grade I went to the highschool and had a meeting to make out a schedule. most 8th graders won't do this)

Nope. Not a lot of my friends are in any of my classes :confused3

And I missed orientation so I had to fend for myself. But now I'm really used to where I am going....sort of lol.

We had tons of orientations at different times of the year. In our most recent one, the day before school started, we had seniors and juniors be our "mentors", and take us around. It was pretty cool, and it helped :)

We visit the school some time in February or March, but I don't think we shadow or anything.

I'm not an 8th grader or freshman, but at our school we (the seniors) shadow the upcoming freshman. We do it in April, because we get out in early May.

When you say "IEP", do you mean for advanced or for slow learners? I know the IEP is mainly for slow learners, but I also know that there are some cases (though very small) where some kids use the IEP because they are not being challenged enough. I was just confused with your choice of words "gifted".

I have an above average IQ. IEP=special education. I have an extra class once every two weeks where I am with other very intelligent people and we talk about college choices and we get certain privliges that some other students don't, such as, we can select teachers in some cases. I was using it as advanced in that context.

Oh, ok. :thumbsup2

At our school and surrounding schools they only use an IEP for special education...meaning kids who can't learn well and need "special" help.

Yes, that is the case for most places, but IEP is actually for all forms of special education by definition, such as CDC classes and advanced learning classes. I should have made that more clear in my original post.

we do visitation.
And then over the summer there's an orientation.
ANd all my friends are gonna help me. :)

Shadowing is going into the shadows of someone else (following them).
I'm in grade 7, but i fall into a split class (7/8) so we'll probably be going with them to visit the high schools during class time. I honestly don't know what to do. I mean, there is this school for the arts that are holding auditions- and one of my friends (kind of a snob) is trying to get in, her sister is in there already. My other friend may audition too, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to develop my talent to the level I'll make it. MANY people audition, but very few get into the school.

I guess I'll have to see.

Yes, I know what it is for, entirely. I just wasn't clear as to what you originally meant thinking about what it is more commonly used for and how I know you from your posts...the two didn't match up, and so I questioned whether you were for the advanced IEP. Had I not known you from your posts, naturally I would have thought you meant the other IEP.
