curious on thoughts around trading reservations

My wife and I are planning a trip to Aulani. To do this we are going to have to bank and borrow our VGC points and book at 7 months. Our window is fairly flexible but our vacation must occur when the kids are out of school. If you were in my shoes would you roll the dice and book at 7 months or would you get on the rent/ trade board and try to swap reservations with someone..ie..you make my Aulani reservation at 11 months and i'll make your Grand Cal at 11 months.

There's several things you can do, I needed set days at VGC so I rented from an owner and the pts I planned on using at 7months, I am going to rent or transfer, aulani seems to be in high demand like VGC so might be hard to get at the 7mo window, prob be best if you can work out a swap or do what I did

If you can afford to and have transfer available. I would take that route, and if needed the rent your points.

If not a 2nd option would be if it is not open, to trade into RCI.. but then you would not be at Aulani. .. but somewhere warm

swaps are hard (especially for the person who travels second...more trust is needed...) - they can be done but it's very rare.

i agree that i'd either look for a transfer or just rent aulani pts for cash and then try to rent your pts for cash as an offset.
