Curious about safety drill

Its not too bad ... as long as you are not standing in the sun!

I've always felt that one could tell a lot about a cruise ship by the safety drill. Some ships take this very seriously, use the time to verify the lifeboat muster lists; take pains to ensure everyone is accounted for accurately; learn of special needs and in general pay attention to this SOLAS requirement.

Some other lines let it be known they think the entire process is a joke.

That's why I sail some lines - and don't others. I mean, is there any harm to an inaccurate muster list should there actually be a need to take to the boats?

BTW - USCG uses the conduct of the drill as one of the factors they grade ship's perfomance by in order to load pass' in a US port.

I'm also one that loves to look at the "other" people in pictures since they aren't really aware they're being caught. For example, in this one, I can just imagine the woman next to you looking at the whistle and thinking "I wonder what would happen if I blew into this as hard as I could right now?"

:rotfl2: How about the other one where the guy next to us is mugging for the camera. We didn't know him. We do know the people on the other side of us in the picture with the whistle lady.

Lisa, I love your pics. Your poor daughter is too cute in her vest! What time is the drill? I'll be one of the early birds! I'm too lazy to use the stairs:lmao:. Also I'm in a secret verandah room, are those drill stations in one of the restaraunts? Does anyone know? Just adding this to the list of things to remember!:thumbsup2

The secret veranda cabins muster station is in Animators Palate. At least the ones on deck 6 are, I'm assuming deck 5 and 7 are too. :confused3

I've been on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and DCL. I thought they all did very good, accurate, serious job on the muster drill.

Our 1st cruise(Disney) was in 2001....my husband had been complaining about that muster ever since...people were yelled at by crew...we had to yell out our cabin number and number of peeps in the room or something like that....it took forever. We just got home from our second cruise and everything was so different...muster was so well run ..we were all lined up neatly by cabin number...the crew checked us off a list and only called out for the missing peeps. The kids(6 and 4) were very serious about the drill and had to drag us out of the cabin because we(the responsible, clear thinking adults) were half paying attention waiting for a siren when they had already told us to start heading down over the PA system.

The rooms aft of the aft elevators go to an inside location from what I can remember.

Attendance is taken by cabin. Whether or not they check that the right number of people are there from each cabin is sort of up to the CM running the drill (they are supposed to!) You might be able to get away with one person missing if you tell them the right number, but what's the point? It is a requirement and while it's no fun, it doesn't take all that long. Cooperate, get it over with, and then get on with cruising!

oh i don't know about that - we had fun - ok there are some serious bits but we did have a chance to get the "photo" and had some giggles at some of the cast and other guests

we were in the Disney studio and found it fun, short and probabaly forgot everything once the horn blew anyways so we didn't sweat it.

i think at most it took 10 minutes.

I was in stateroom 6630 last December and the muster station was in AP. I can also second they call, because they apparently didn't see me come in because they called my stateroom.

Does anyone know where the muster station is for deck 2?
We've been on deck 5 before and our muster station was outside I think on deck 4? We've been on deck 6 before and we were in AP (and sure did like that better LOL although yes the lifevests were more comfortable except for those of us with chests- ie: women LOL that's all I'm saying about that LOL) and I'm curious where we'll be (muster station) if we're on deck 2? that's a lot of stairs. we better make sure we go early and use elevators this time. LOL

We were on deck 2 and our muster station was the big theater where they have the nightly shows. Can't remember the name - too early. There was 4-6 groups in there at one time. We even had a cheer off waiting for our one person.

I guess we're some of those you see when you get to your station! :rotfl2:

We alway head to our station 15+ minutes early. We just carry our vests and because we're early, we can use the elevators - also, we miss out of herd-like masses who (correctly) use the stairwells once the alarm has been given.

That will definitely be us. My family is a pack of, how do I put this nicely, brown nosing suck ups. So, when we were in school, college, or even work seminars, we are always the first ones there, sitting in the front row, with that attentive face on.

:rotfl: should I be embarrassed?

we were on deck 2 and our muster station was on deck 4, I think it depends on where the stateroom in located, we were close to the middle but closer the after elevators

I know it's important:worship:, but...........

How is it possible to tell everyone is where they're supposed to be. That is, how do they know if you're taking part? Is there a roll-call? Never been cruisin' and was curious.........:confused3

Disney knows everything.

Once you have been to this rehearsal you will realise that if the ship sinks everyones going to drown, its chaotic even when no ones panicking almost to the point of being funny

We stay on deck 2 and have always had our MS on deck 4. Nice that it's not a very long walk or lots of stairs.

I cant resist posting this pic of dh trying to get dd life jacket on....we were all laughing so hard! Its actually still super funny!
