(Mods, if this one needs to be moved, go for it.)

Hello, I'm Sam. I have been wondering about DVC ever since my grandparents sat through a sales pitch at WDW (and then said no). It seems extremely expensive to be a member. I plan on living in the Orlando area when I get older (I'm fifteen), so I figure it might be easier to be an APH. I'm also planning on working at WDW, so I'm not sure if that entails any benefits at the other parks/DCL. What do you think? :goodvibes

DVC is Disney's version of a timeshare.....it's not about getting benefits or discounts, it's a way of prepaying for your hotel room for the next several decades.

We do get a few discounts from time to time, but it's certainly nothing you'd spend $20,000 for. People buy DVC because they want to stay in the larger, villa-style rooms at the DVC resorts (studio, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom). Buying into DVC can be a cost-effective way to do that, since the annual costs for DVC are usually much less than a cash reservation for those same rooms through Disney.

If you lived in Orlando, you might not want to stay in Disney resorts enough to make DVC worthwhile. Or, you might. :) I know some Disney fans in Orlando who stay in the resorts from time to time.
