Here comes another cynic... I sometimes think they are sitting on the cure for cancer as cancer is big business.... if they could cure cancer with one drug, what would happen to all the cancer wings, radiation areas, chemotherapy wings or cancer hospitals that they have built to deal with the multi-million dollar business of people being sick with this dread disease..

I told you I was cynical today, but will be printing this article to bring to our scans in February at MGH... I look around at all these sick people and think, why can't we find a cure??

I am truly amazed at the progress that has been made on some types of cancer and that gives me great hope that there could never be such a massive and air-tight conspiracy to hush up a cure for cancer. I have to believe that, with all the "leaks" that we see from business and government, someone would blow the lid off such a conspiracy.

The progress made on leukemia in the last 15 years is nothing short of amazing.

I don't know, there have been so many cancer drugs through the years that have sounded promising but then don't live up to all the hype in clinical trials. I think the problem is that while many drugs are effective at first, cancer has a way of mutating so that the drug eventually stops working. Maybe this one will be different, I don't know. I hope so - cancer is an awful, awful diseaase.

There is a company that was in the building near where I worked in Austin called Introgen. They were working on some really amazing cancer research that sounds along these lines. I saw it on the news a couple times, but have not heard much in the national press. They were using an individuals own cells, treated, to go in and fight the cancer. I hope I live to see the day they can cure all forms of cancer.

My MIL is involved in a study here in Boston at the Dana-Farber along these lines. They have manufactured a vaccine for her, FROM her own cells. It's FASCINATING stuff, and they are VERY optomistic on the results.

I do a LOT of volunteering for the Dana-Farber/Jimmy Fund, and the work they are doing is amazing and wonderful, and cutting edge, and the hope is that in our lifetime they get cancer to where it can be treated as a chronic condition, rather than a killer. They're getting closer all the time too.

What really excited me about this study is that they seem to have found the CAUSE of cancer, not just a way to treat it. If you understand how something works you have won half the battle.

As far as some conspiracy to keep the cure from getting out, that's why I told DH to write to his congressman. Just think, now Crenshaw could say he cured cancer. That totally trumps that other politician that invented the internet. Don'tcha think?

So please share this info with as many people as possible. It may not be the answer, but it sounds like a big piece of the puzzle. They need funding for this research. It won't come from the drug companies. It will have to be private and federal funding.

It could potentially come from drug companies. If a company does so much as come up with a unique delivery (extended release, for example) for the drug, they can get a valuable patent that lasts 2 or 3 years (I forget).

OMG, if people would actually rather have money than help people to live, etc...it is totally wrong...and I think that God would be sending them you know where.

I agree. I just wish all of the money that was donated to "find a cure" was actually used for that purpose.
