My DS6 has been hording his birthday money and collecting spare change for months in order to be able to get a good souvenir this year at Disney. (He's up to almost $80 now) He really wants to get a cuckoo clock and he heard they have them in the German pavilion at Epcot. (I'm not quite sure WHY he wants one, but who am I to pass judgement when what I want most is stuff from the Villains store LOL) Has anyone bought one from there before? How big are they? On average, what do they run. DH and I are going to kick in whatever he needs to make up the difference if it is something reasonable, but I want to know what we're in for.

Thanks for any info you guys can provide!!

They have many different clocks of varying size and price. They will ship them to your home for a small fee. We bought one about 8 years ago that is now hanging in my living room. DH had to have one, not sure why. Might have been the "beers around the world." :confused3

They can be found on the right side of Germany. They usually have about 50 to choose from. If I remember correctly they are $200+. They are all hand carved.

I bought a small stand up one back in 98 and it was about $30. It's very nice, there's a key to wind it. I grew up with Cuckoo Clocks in my house and my grandparents. I don't have a real one yet, but some October I will. I all ready told DH that I am not leaving WDW without one! :rotfl:

$200!!!!!! :faint:

I remember looking in the shop, fascinated with the hand-carved cuckoos, but surely they had some that werent $200?

:earseek:

:earseek: $200?! So, maybe I can steer him towards a cuckoo magnet and a t-shirt?? LOL Thanks for all the info everyone. Maybe they still have the smaller ones. *fingers crossed*

Yup,200.00 and more but they are so worth it! It seems to me though that I saw some small ones for about 100.00 but I don't know if they were having some kind of clearance sale or not. This was last September.

Fastpass,

I'm sure they are well worth it. I know how much time goes into hand carving something like that, but I also have to think that it's for a 6 year old and his room. I guess we'll just have to see what happens when we get there.

We are close enough to a German town here in Georgia, so if it doesn't work out we can look around there for a Christmas gift.

That's such a nice idea. I hope you are able to find a nice one for him. I can imagine that the clock will be such a nice memory for years to come.

Yes they have small wall clocks , approx. 7" tall, but are not made of the traditional wood, they are made of stained pine wood. They are hand painted, have a pendulum , key, figurines...etc. They run approx $30.00.
They have cuckoos made in China and Japan that are much more affordable for a youngster, and are within his price range.
The real cuckoos imported from Germany are the ones that begin to have a bigger price tag....couple hundred up to a couple thousand.

My son (7) loves his cuckoo clock. He winds it everyday. It was about $300, but he loves it. I know the one my parents have is about 70 years old and still works fine. I guess he can take it with him to college.

My wife just got back from Germany and bought one for my parents' 50th anniversary. It cost her around $225 american dollars. It's very pretty and not only has the cuckoo but also has figurines that go around like Munich Glockenspiel. It keeps good time. It does seem quite expensive to me though. I would also like to have an idea of how much disney cuckoo clocks would cost. I would thing they might even have a disney theme. I would look to see if it has Swiss timing. Good luck!

My German ex-change student's parents sent me one a couple of years ago for Christmas. I believe is a Black Forest, I bought one for my sister last Christmas that was the same size (small) but not quite as detailed and it was $100. I think a similiar one in Germany (Epcot) was around $200. Is there anyway you can go German Town before your trip to price compare?

I will probably not get up to Helen before our trip, but there are plenty of other souvenirs for him to choose from. When I told him that it might cost $200 for a cuckoo clock he looked a little shocked, but suggested that I just go to the "vending machine" at the bank that gives out "free money" and get some more. :rotfl2:

If he doesn't get one this trip, we'll probably get him one for Christmas. I have seen some beatiful ones online and even if it isn't 100% handcrafted, I am sure he will love it just as much.
