My son has to bake and decorate a cake for scouts and I was wondering if anyone has ideas or advice. He doesn't know what he wants to do. Thanks!!!

I don't have any scouts, so I'm not sure of the rules. Is this the one that has to be original? If not, a "Cat Box Cake" usually goes over pretty well with that age group. Of course, DS had one for his 17th birthday party & it was a big hit! (Well, except with the girls of course. ;))

What if he does some type of wilderness cake. You could get a blue cardboard that could be the river, and make a canoe cake. If you are able to find sugar coated wilderness animals or fishes, have him put those around on the cardboard.

You could always do a baseball cake. I mean, decorate the cake like a baseball diamond/field. I did one years ago when I was a kid for a cake contest. It got me the blue ribbon. I can't remember all the details of how I decorated it, but I do remember I used candy. Lots of candy.

I did see some great cake decorating ideas yesterday (maybe the day before) on the foodnetwork channel. It was Sandra Lee (semi-homemade cooking). She had some of the cutest and easiest ideas I have seen in a long time.

Good luck.

A couple of years ago, DH and DS made a cake resembling his derby car. DS did just about everything with supervision from DH. The cake and the car both won first place!

I should add, the car won first place in our group but not in the next levels. But DS was thrilled and DH was happy as one of the dads in our group was bragging how he did this and that to the car (his son never touched it) and how HIS car was going to win. People need to realize that these kids can do a lot if you just let them. And, it's more fun for them. :D

My son and husband also have to make a Cake, its suppose to be a birthday type cake in celebration of the 75th Anniversity of Scouting. Ours has to be made for their Blue and Gold celebration.
