I am one of the leaders of a cub scout pack in Barbados, run by the school my kids go to! We don't have "dens". We are organized into packs according to colour (black, blue, green, red, yellow), and there is no subdivision within colours because our troop isn't big enough. We don't call them "tigers" etc. - we go by badge levels (bronze, silver, gold etc.). Our leaders are all Jungle Book characters, with Akela the Lone Wolf at the top, and Baloo, Chill, Rama, etc. being various leader positions. I'm not sure who they settled on for me to be - I guess I'll find out next term! They wanted me to be Akela, but I'm fairly new, so I'm just going to assist the new Akela and stand in for her when she's not available.
My son is about to turn 7, so he's going to be invested this month! Last term he was a "chum" even though he wasn't 7 yet, because I was a leader. Now he can finally become one of the cubs! In our troop they only used to let kids in the year above DS join (i.e. the 7 - 8 year old class, Grade 2 I guess?), but they've decided to make an exception for children of leaders, which is why he can officially join as soon as he is 7, even though our troop would normally not have taken him until September 2007.
I'm always looking for resources too, but we don't seem to follow the American or Canadian way - we follow the British Scouts more I think. Still, any games and activities I can find would be great!
For our "other countries" badge we have been looking at linking with cub packs in other countries. So far we have connections to one in England. If anyone is interested in linking their pack up to our Barbados one, just let me know!
