My DW and I are looking around at options for later this year or next year for a 7 day trip. I have always stayed at POR and love it there, and I have stayed at POFQ and CBR, but she wants to try something different. I don't think we can swing a deluxe and I like the mods better. So, we've been looking at pics of CSR and are curious. The trip will be me, DW, DD(6), DD(1)So...

1) What do you like about the resort?
2) What do you dislike about the resort?
3) We are worried if we pick a date when there is a convention that the resort will be overcrowded and not family friendly. Is this an accurate statement? Is there cause for concern?

Thanks!

Sorry but have not been to POR or POFQ so I can't compare. Did however go to CB on our honeymoon. CSR is spread out like that but we as a family of 4 loved everything about it. Our girls are older so walking around is not a problem. We stayed in the Casitas 5 area and it was a 5 minute walk back to El Centro (food, drinks, gift shop) and about a 7 minute walk over to the main feature pool where there was the hot tub/waterslide/playground/arcade area. We were however only a 1-2 minute walk to our bus stop which was in fact the first bus stop they pick up at for going to the parks. We always got a seat (and all together as well). If you don't mind walking quite a bit than CSR is really a nice resort. We love their food as well. Go to You tube and watch a complete tour of CSR. It really will give you a feeling for each of the areas and the resort.

Forgot to mention, there are quiet pools in each of the 3 areas of the resort as well. (Casitas, Ranchos, Cabanas) So if you want to hang out a less crowded pool you can do that in each of the areas. My girls did say however the water was definately not as warm as the main pool. Just a thought.

1) What do you like about the resort?

It's a beautiful resort. We've stayed only in the Casitias and the Ranchos. The Ranchos are supposed to be a long walk to restaurants and lobby. But it was shorter than the walks we've had at CBR.

2) What do you dislike about the resort?

Like all the moderates your view really is out the front door. And the windows in the room face walkways. So the only advantage of a lake view is that you will be on the less noisy side of the building away the parking.

Stairwells are plentiful and elevators are few. We'd always take the stairs near our room but after a day in the park it was painful sometimes.

Like the link listed above we didn't notice any problems with conventions. I would think that the bars might be more busy but other than that there might be more advantages than disadvantages.

We absolutely love the pools at CSR including the feature pool.

We are DVC members but often add on a day or two at CSR before our stays at our DVC resort.

We stayed in 2010 and absolutely LOVED CSR. We moved from CBR Pirate Rooms (uncomfortable beds) to CSR and were sooooo happy. It was quiet, beautiful, and the kids loved it as much as we did. The main pool was so much fun for them and the rooms were clean, comfy, and roomy. I would not hesitate to book there again...but we are trying out as many resorts as we can!!!:rotfl:

Also regarding conventions....when we were there...I seen some people dressed in business attire but NOTHING that took away from the fact that we were at Disney...it was not crowded and like I said...the kids loved the resort too! It had the best of all worlds, in our opinion!!!

We stayed at CSR for 5 nights in August/September

Likes:
Beautiful resort, wonderful CMs, great eating options (pepper market was awesome!!!!), Good buses, awesome pool area

Dislikes:
Nothing really, it was a little spread out, we were lucky enough to get our request of cabanas 9 (i believe that's what it was called), which was only about 3 minutes from the main building, but the Rachos section was pretty far...i walked every morning around the resort and I remember thinking if I was in some of these areas I would not have enjoyed this resort as much....but we are a family that runs down to the main building several times a day....so that could be different for others, and there is a sanck bar/refill station at the main pool, which is much closer to Ranchos than the main building....

Overall, it was a wonderful place and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again (if there weren't so many other fun places to try)

Have fun!!

I go to WDW several times a year and normally stay in a moderate each trip, so have stayed at all four moderates within the last year or so. CSR and POFQ are tied for my favorites with PORS coming in third and CBR fourth. As far as CSR:

Likes: best bus service on property, most comfortable beds among the moderates, love the main pool, longer pool slide, biggest hot tub on property, love the Pepper Market (breakfast and lunch are now CS buffets which is a great deal if you are on the DDP), they are the only moderate to have a healthclub/spa/beauty salon, we like being able to get food and also mugs refilled at either Cafe Rix, Pepper Market, or the pool bar, love the white sand beaches and hammocks in the Cabana section and the lovely fountains an romantic feel of the Casitas, like how the resort is fairly centrally located, and just love the general relaxed feel of the resort. Oh yeah, they definitely have the best kids playground of all WDW resorts.

Dislike: I hate the look of the Ranchos, but that's just a personal feeling.:rotfl: Thus far in eight trips to CSR, I've been able to avoid that section. If you do happen to get stuck back there, the resort can feel pretty big, but you could always use the buses to get around to the front of the resort.

With conventioneers being in meetings all day, they leave the buses to us, which to me is a big plus. I've never felt the resort was not kid friendly. I've always seen kids running around. Yes, I have noticed the suits too, but I just feel sorry for them for having to be in meetings all day while I'm out enjoying the parks. Most trips I haven't even noticed the conventions, but knew by the convention list on the CSR FAQ thread that there was one and sometimes two down there.

Have to say that, despite being a convention centre resort, Disney really outdoes itself to cater for the family at this resort with a superb inca-themed play area for kids with swings, sandpit, climbing apparatus and slide plus table tennis and a volleyball sand court. I stayed here just last week and it would on the face of it have been my 3rd choice out of the moderates (I have stayed at POR and CBR already several times) but I thought it was an excellent hotel and the quick service dining plan worked amazingly here with much more bang for your buck than at the other moderates. The downside - the rooms are not as disney themed but are very comfortable. We were in the Casitas and it was only a few minutes gentle stroll to El Centro and to the dig site.
