How is this restaurant for the DDP? Thinking of stopping here for lunch while at AK and then go back to the park.
Really want to have the zebra domes for desert, is this including in the CS meal?

If you are looking for a break from AK and getting away from the park, then Mara would be a good choice. Bus service is quick between AK and AKL. You could dine poolside, or inside in the a/c, and check out the resort, which may or may not be worth a visit because of the construction , which should be going on during busn hours during the week.

There are good CS choices at AK. I don't know that Mara is better and so worth the trip. If you really want to try the zebra domes (and they are tasty), you could use a snack credit just to get the zebra domes.

Some unsolicited advice: unless you are going on a day when AK is open late and/or you plan on coming back to AK on another day, I would think twice about going outside the park for lunch. AK is open fewer hours than the other parks but there is much more to see and do there now than just a couple years ago. If it is only open from 9-5, for example, IMHO it is impossible to see everything in that 8 hours even if you stay inside the park for lunch. By the time you walk from wherever you are in the park to the front gate, wait for an AK bus (I believe they do not run as frequently in the middle of the day), ride to AK, walk to Mara, have your lunch, and do the whole thing again in reverse, you will probably spend 2 hours or more. If you've got to have those zebra domes, think about doing Mara for dinner or just a snack (or better yet, Boma for dinner) after the park closes. JMTC.

I'm planning on Mara for dinner on our AK day in Nov. I plan to spend the whole day at AK, then head to AKL to explore. I don't want to be on a set time table, so CS will work great for us. I can't wait to try the African stew and Zebra domes!

We loved Mara when we stayed at AKL this past February! I got breakfast there every morning to take back to the room, and we ate dinner there two nights (the night we arrived and the day we went to Busch Gardens and got back late). My dad enjoyed the pizza, and I loved the Ceasar salad...and the sweet potato chips are to die for!! Lot of snack and dessert choices in the cases, too.
