One of the best things at GF we thought during our stay were the sandwiches at Gasparilla's Grill. Last trip we enjoyed a great salad and burger at Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary.

Can anyone tell me if the CS at Poly, AKL or WCC are worth a trip as we do DDP for the first time next trip.

I wouldn't make a special trip to the Poly to eat at Capt Cook's. It's got a limited menu and the food is just average.

I thought Captain Cook's was ok, however I would much rather keep going back to the Contempo Cafe and Gasparilla's Grill & Games.

Don't know about the others, but the CS at AKL is called the Mara. Like many other CS places, it has the standard hamburger/pizza/chicken strips menu. In addition, it has several interesting/unusual items, such as flatbreads, African stew in a bread bowl, some interesting salads, etc. It is pretty good as far as it goes, but in the end, it is just CS food and I would not make a special trip to the AKL (or to any other resort) just to try the CS restaurant at that resort.

I love Captain Cook's. It's my favorite deluxe CS. Animal Kingdom Lodge had a nice CS, too. I love the Mara salad and zebra domes.

My least favorite is Beach Club's CS which has a few sandwiches. As much as we love the resort, I'd much rather walk over to Epcot and eat a CS meal there.

Thanks for the replies, I quite like a venture over to a couple of other resorts to have a browse in their gift shops and get something to eat.

Think we may give AKL Mara a go based on your feedback, I love zebra domes.

I agree. Of the one's you listed, I would only go out of my way for The Mara at AKL. Not only will you be able to enjoy their good unique food, such as; the Zebra Domes, their African Stew and a Mango Smoothie but the views of the animals there are worth it as well. :goodvibes:yay::upsidedow

I just love visiting AKL - the lobby is spectacular. Sitting by the fire pit, having a drink at Victoria Falls and seeing the animals is really cool. I also think that their gift shop is one of the best.

I think the trip there is worth it for those reasons. Haven't eaten at Mara for a while. I remember the Mickey waffles at breakfast, and Captain Cook's doesn't have those if I remember correctly. Also, yes, the zebra domes are quite yummy.

When we venture to AKL we usually eat at Boma, but if you are specifically looking for CS, I still say the trip is worth it.

Edit:
Where are you planning on staying?
I think that the food in general at AKL is very good and is one reason to book a stay there. I do believe that Mara is a bit better than Captain Cooks and Boma just a hair above 'Ohana

Can't....believe.... fiesta....fun....center....gone.....oh....no....

Sorry, had to vent. Please, carry on...

It wasn't called the Fiesta Fun Center for many years. However the weird thing is when we got our room bill and had any room charges from there it was listed as the Fiesta Fun Center, even though any bills we had after ordering something said it was the Food & Fun Center.

We just got back from the AKL, and the food at The Mara was pretty good. Not amazing, but better than I expected for CS. Everything was pretty fresh.

They have the typical Chicken Fingers, pizza, fries, etc as the others, but I did enjoy their chicken caesar salad. It was pretty big and tasted fresh.

It is definitely worth it just to check out the hotel. It really is amazing. you can go outside and see all the animals, they even have an animal trail by the pool and a pool bar. And it was not difficult to get a table although it was very busy. There are tables outside by the pool as well.

The only pain is that it is SOOO far from everything. I am thinking of becoming a DVC member, but for the fact that this resort is so far from everything, we will not be choosing this one.

Hope that helps!

We had dinner last trip at Captain Cook's at the Poly...the pulled pork sandwich was good and different, but I wasn't a big fan of the chips that came as a side. Everyone else liked their meals, but no one raved about them, so I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. Contempo Cafe sounds like a much better option!

This is good to know because we are going in Dec for a short trip and I would love to see some the resorts with their holiday decorations but we are only eating counter service this trip except for beaches and cream at the BC but if I can plan a couple more CS meals at a couple of resorts than we can kill 2 birds with one stone. How is the WL food court? I hav'nt heard anything much about it but heard it's very pretty at the holidays. Linda :)
