Crystal Light

I can't have Crystal Light because I can't have the artificial sweetener.

I always got very bad headaches if I drank Diet Coke or anything like that. It took years to put 2 and 2 together. ;)

We drink the Wal Mart brands and they are great. My packets say to add to a 16.9 oz. bottle of water.

Well, if it tastes "fake", then it's out of the question for me. I am also prone to migranes so that's the end of that. Thanks for the info!

I love the little packets, but if you have a large bottle of water, you might need to add 2 pakages. I think they recommend a 12 oz bottle, but most bottles are bigger than that.

I actually think using one packet in a tiny bottle is gross...WAY too strong IMO...I like one packet in a LARGE bottle (20-24oz) of water tastes much better.

I do taste the difference, but it doesn't taste fake too me. I do not touch touch diet sodas, I hate the taste...but I LOVE Crystal Light decaf ice tea. I can not stand the taste of regular ice tea now, (Unless it is home made) My kids drink it all the time...we have absolutely no reactions to it all. Not everyone in the world has reactions to aspartame. I guess I must be poisoning my kids, I'm surprised my dd's have made it to almost 18 years old, 16 and 13 with no health problems...they've been drinking it since they were about 1 years old. My Mom drinks it too, she's the one that got me started on it.

THANK YOU!!!!! IMO, this whole "you are poisoning your kids" gets really old.

I tried one pack in a 20 oz bottle and it was too weak for me...I guess everyone likes their tea different strength. I actually use 1 1/2 in a 20 oz bottle. I save the other half for the next one.

Yes it does! I know it affects some people, but it is not poison for everyone...my family is proof of that.

True, some people indeed have reactions to it but NOT everyone, and the lectures get really old. I can't go out to eat with my stepmother anymore. You reach for the Sweet 'n Low and all hell breaks loose.

Last time I was at Disney my mom & I used these little packets. We'd ask for a glass of ice water - which is FREE - at food stands and fill our water bottles with the cold water and the crystal light. It was great!

And seriously, the people that are say that Crystal Light is 'poison' worry way too much. I'd say feeding your kids McDonalds is much worse.

All artificial sweeteners give me and both of my DDs severe migraines. :( I wish they made something like this with real
sugar in it! I know the packets would be bigger but who cares.
Why not just drink juice then?

who say I feed my kid mc donalds? I acutally buy mostly organic and try to stay away from all artificial ingredients. DD has horrible reactions to artificial coloring, and I actually thought I had MS or fibromyalgia until I cut out the artificial sweeteners, coloring etc.

STOP the bickering! GEEZE! The OP asked about Crystal Light and if it was a diet drink and if it was any good. WHY does it have to become a debate about aspertame and McDonalds? Do you people not have enough to do in your actual lives that you must drag a post off topic and start fighting?

Good lord!

OP: Buy some regular kool-aid or country time lemon-aid. Play around with measurements at home and bring some with your for your trip.

I like the crystal light raspberry ice. It doesn't taste diet at all. The orange flavor tastes like TANG.

I think Crystal Lite tastes very much diet-y. I recently was reading a thread on the budget board and a poster said that she saw KoolAid single serve packets with real sugar in Target. I am goign to look for them tonight.

I also am very against aspartame for my family. For me, it mimicks the symptoms of MS and no way will I let my kids have it because of that.

The OP did ask if the drink was "safe" and since it contains aspertame that apparently makes it unsafe for some people. So I think it was good to point that out so she could make an informed decision. We drink it with no obvious problems. Now as to the whole McDonalds issue that was definately off topic, although only a matter of time. :goodvibes

Just wanted to update from my earlier post about the KoolAid drink packets. I did find them at Target. They are called Kool-Aid Singles. They are for an 8 oz serving, but seem a bit too sweet to me in 8 oz of water. They do have sucralose and acesulfame potassium which are listed as sweeteners. It has to me a very very faint "sweetener aftertaste. Not enough so you would notice if you weren't really concentrating on it. Each packet is 30 cals and they will def be going to WDW with us.

Because lately that has been how it has been on here. I almost didn't respond to this thread because I knew it was going to turn into the horrors of aspartame. I've been drinking it for over 20 years with no reactions...kids have been drinking it with no reactions. If you do have reactions to artificial sweeteners and coloring then yes, you should stay away from it. I would never tell someone that they should drink it if it bothers them, but I also would never tell someone they were poisoning their kids if they let them drink it. Not everyone reacts badly to it.

Standing ovation! :thewave:
