Crystal Ball needed... Star Wars land

Hi all... So the bug has bitten and is getting itchy... Been a whole 6 months since we have been in DL, so yeah that is about right to need to plan my next trip south. However we have other big plans between now and a year from now. So DL will have to wait till fall 2017 at least. We love, love, love Halloween time at Disney. But I don't want to go in October if Star Wars will be done by spring break 2018, you know? So, thinking early May 2018, post spring breaks, and before the mid-west gets out for summer break. I need you folks to break out your crystal balls. How long did cars land take from ground breaking to opening day? Anyone remember? Disney seems to take forever for these things. So, roughly 2 years from now... Just shy of 2.5 years since they closed a ton of stuff to make way for the new land, what do you think my odds are they will be done in early 2018? It probably won't stop us either way. Just like to speculate

It took more than 5 years (2006~2012) from ground breaking to opening day. So as they say, we shouldn't hold our breath!

That is actually good news...I probably won't feel like we just needed to wait another month or so then when we go. And then we can go back in 2020 or 2021 to see it completed!

It took more than 5 years (2006~2012) from ground breaking to opening day. So as they say, we shouldn't hold our breath!

I believe the ground breaking CarsLand was in 2008 at the earliest and might have been in 2009. It did finish in June 2012. I suppose someone properly motivated could research it but I am quite certain it was not 2006.

I think a 3-4 year process for Star Wars Land is a good working assumption.

The speculation that I have read and heard is there is a real desire by Disney to get Star Wars land finished in time for the release of Episode 9 because it would work out really nice publicity wise. Episode 9 has a planned release date of May 23, 2019 but that is subject to change. Episode 8 just got pushed back recently from a May 2017 release to a December 2017.

Quick Google search reveals, groundbreaking for Cars Land took place in July 2009. Opening was June 2012.

This also explains why my mom seems so baffled as to how she missed it. She went to DL last in March 2012, almost to the day, 3 months before it even opened.

I got my info from Wikipedia (I know..) and another site that I can't find right now. Personally, It "seems" like it was that long.
I'm sure the person who posted on Wiki is just as certain as you are.

A bit more to the point, CL showed up in the 2006 Disney annual report and that to me, is when it all started.
One thing is for sure, the new SWL's construction time is anybody's guess right now.

I knew you guys would have some logical ideas as to an opening date I am liking the idea of going in May 2018... Don't think I can wait longer than that... And then again 6 months or so after Star Wars opens... That worked well for us with cars land... The buzz had died down a little and we really enjoyed it. It's not that I am dying for Star Wars to be done... More like the construction in general and to see how things have turned out with the train and ROA etc too.

I'd shoot for fall 2017 and figure Star Wars land isn't likely to open until late 2018 or 19. Though the rumor is they want it open ASAP and some have speculated it could open in December 2017 to coincide with the next movie. I highly doubt it though, but you never know.
