Since they have added Nemo and now Crush the turtle, does anyone know if they are ever going to restart the sea cabs at The Living Seas? On our trip earlier this month, we never got over there to see for ourselves.

Excuse my ignorance but what were the sea cabs?

The Living Seas Pavaillion used to consist of 4 parts: A pre-show (ie a boring movie), the Hydrolators (fake elevators that provided the illusion of lowing you to the sea floor), The Sea Cabs (OmniMovers that you rode through a glassed in section of the aquarium), and Sea Base Alpha (the interactive display area that most of us think of when we think of The Living Seas). The Sea Cabs were shut down and Guest now walk directly from the hydrolators to Sea Base Alpha.

The Sea Cabs were rumored to be closed due to leaks in the the glassed in area they moved through. There was a rumor that they were to be re-opened this last summer, but it never happened (there were rumors of additional leaks). What is really going on and whether the Sea Cabs will ever re-open is anyones guess at this point. I wouldn't bet on it in the near future though.

Last rumor/info I heard was that they were looking for a new sponsor for the ride so they would foot the bill for any repairs/upgrades.

So far,no takers.

The sea cab portion was too short, but it was a neat idea. But, now, it is major bad show having to walk through that obvious make-shift walled off area.

i think i remember that walk. the last thing that i went on when i went on my last trip was the land and the sea. i wouldnt be surprised if it did have some kind of leaking issue. they didnt do a press release or anything did they?

My understanding was that it was just too expensive both to run and maintain. Unless they find a new sponor, that area is wasted space. It's unfortunet, because there are areas of the tank now that no one can see. I've taken the SCUBA tour of the Living Seas twice now, and although you see most of the tank during that, there is about a 1/4 of it that is inaccesible to everyone. I for one miss the cabs a lot.

I just visited this exhibit 4 days ago and it was sad to see. The movie needs improvement (maybe we should get Ellen D to upgrade the movie here) and the cabs do need to come back. I remember this used to be a fun show and had plenty of fish and turtles to see (all the turtles are gone). It is really a sad place now. The dolphins and manatees are in and out of the open arena areas so when they go in the back there is nothing to see there at all (this happened when I was there a few times). Please don't get me wrong, I know the animals can't be out all the time as they do need down/quiet time as well but when there not out there is only one tank of fish to look at. This has turned into a 15 minute pavillion at best.

If it were just a maintenance issue with the Omnimovers, one would they think they could just pull out the cabs, leave the track in place, raise the floor an inch or so to cover the track and open that area up as a walk through. That way, if they ever wanted the Omnimovers back, they could simply remove the raised floor, put the cabs back on the track and start it up again.

I too did the Divequest tour back when the seacabs were running. It was fun waving at the people in the cabs as they went by.

Are you sure about this? We were there at the end of September and a sea turtle swam right by our window!

I used to love the living sea exhibit. It was one of my favorites. I will miss the omnimovers, I hope they find a way to bring them back. It's not so much that I mind walking, it was just a neat little story line they had goping. All part of the magic I guess. From the sound of things it seems as if its lost something and is just a bit ghetto lame now. The Crush the Turtle thing sounds pretty cool though. I'm looking forward to checking things out. Hopefully I will be pleasantly suprised
