Cruising The Canal May 1, 2015 (Roll Call in Post 1)

Welcome all of you new families. Today is the last day to join the post card recipe exchange. Simply. Buy postcards from where you are from put a recipe on the back and deliver it to the others involved. No set days no set time. Keeping it simple. Please PM me with your name and cabin number if interested.

I am up right now trying to figure out excursions as well. We just bit the bullet this week, so I am in major catch up mode! Haha.

We were hoping for a deck one room but ended up in a 9B on deck 2 instead, room 2070 to be exact. :)
Did you book OGT and already got your room assignment?

No, we did not book OGT. We booked MTO and they gave us our room assignment over the phone. The rate was so great we decided to not hold out for an inside deal.

Right Paradise Beach seems a good alternative. Anyone going there?

Our plan is to grab a cab there right away and then about 2 hours prior to getting back on the ship grabbing a cab and heading back to the downtown area to do some shopping. From there it is a cheap cab ride or a 20 minute ride back to the port.

From what I have gathered, it is $3 per person admission with a $10pp F&B minimum. There are tons of rave reviews about the food and drinks service, so I do not mind that.

Double check they're open on Sunday's. We port on a Sunday and Chankanaab isn't open. That's where we were wanting to go. Someone in another thread tried to book online several Sunday's and everything shows no availability. Don't want anyone to be disappointed if they take a cab & find out no dice.

Thanks for looking out! :sail:
As we get closer to sailing, I will double check this...but based on the info from their website:
WHAT TIME DOES PARADISE BEACH OPEN FOR GUESTS?
We open at 9 AM everyday and close at around 5 to 6 PM 365 days a year.

DO I NEED A RESERVATION FOR PARADISE BEACH COZUMEL?
There is no need to book, first come, first served!

DOES PARADISE BEACH CLOSE AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR?
Paradise Beach is open 365 days a year. We only close for weather if conditions become unsafe for our guests.

Fabulous! I was a bit disappointed at Nacchi & Chankanaab being closed. I try not to be grumpy about it since it's kinda nice that my boys both have jobs that give them Sundays off. (Yay for getting a day still!) I'm sure other busy people in this world appreciate a family day every week, too. :) It all worked out for us, too. FiL saw the Secret River & wants to do that. MiL isn't game so she & my 19 yro will be venturing off to the Atlantis submarine, Margaritaville, & shopping.

It's coming up fast! Exciting!

On our last cruise, I arranged private Mixology sessions for our group. It ended up being a bit of a nightmare to organise as it was a Halloween sailing and people were very concerned about things clashing, however it was a huge amount of fun and very popular - we ended up with 3 sessions with 30 people on each. Because it was so much fun, I would be more than happy to organise a similar thing for our group on this sailing, if possible.

I have been in touch with DCL and have had confirmation that they can work with us to arrange Mixology for our group. A few people asked if, due to the number of sea days, we could run sessions with different drinks so they could attend twice so my proposal is to request Mixology sessions and maybe Martini tastings also.

If anybody is interested, please reply here or PM me and I will add your name to the interested list. I am not looking for a firm commitment at this stage. I will be looking to get final names around 3 months prior.

I'm brand new to DCL, mixology and this message board, but am pretty sure that my husband and I would love to attend at least one Mixology event. Thank you for coordinating and let me know what I need to do to help.

I work in the travel and tourism industry and I have no days off, ever. I will be working on this vacation (even though this is a family/leisure trip)...its part of the job, but I LOVE what I do, so its barely work at all. 98% of the time, I tell people that I am not getting paid to work, I am getting paid to be away from my family, the other 2%, well, I am getting paid to deal with the train wrecks. Haha

Hi everyone, I am cross posting this incase anyone misses it.

Cartagena Tour with Dora the Explorer

Dora came highly recommended from the DIS 2014 WBPC group as well at Trip Advisor. I was not keen on either of the "bus tours" offered by Disney as most of the time was spent loading and unloading large tour busses, so I reached out to Dora to coordinate a private tour. Her typical tour includes a stop in the new city which includes about 40 minutes RT of highway driving and then shopping in a modern mall. I asked her if we could skip the new city and extend our time in the Old Walled City instead and she was happy to make that happen. Here are the details from her email to me:

Cartagena is a beautiful city and it will be nice for you to take a well organized tour. It can be the “highlight” of your cruise.

Time: 7:45 a.m.

Date: May 6 2015

Following we head towards the San Felipe de Barajas Fort, the most important fort built in the whole American continent. Photo Stop. Next we walk and drive around the walled area - old city admiring houses and plazas such as Plaza de Santa Teresa, Plaza de Bolivar, Plaza de la Aduana, Plaza de los Coches, full of history and legends. **Additional time here as we will not be visiting the new city on this tour** Photo stop at the Palace of the Inquisition.

We do a stop at the Dungeons, which today are 23 handcraft shops.

We Visit a Church called San Pedro Claver Church.

Forgot to mention, we are Ann and Wayne Buss from Houston. We are bringing our 1 yo son and 3 yo daughter. Our cabin # is TBA.

Hello all! I sent out the latest, SEMI-FINAL, lists for FE today. Please, if you've signed up, check your email. Check your information! Let me know of any corrections - the next update will be the FINAL LIST next month! It's almost here!

@MunFam, that's who we're booked thru for our Cartegena tour! Yay! My FiL has some physical limitations and things so we're going to keep our tour private in case we need to switch things up on the fly. It sounds like it'll be a fabulous tour, tho! All my communication with Dora has been exceptional! My husband works with a fellow that's from Cartegena. He recommended Dora as well. I thought that was a solid recommend if it came from someone who's from Cartegena. Right???

I originally tried to book Rogers Boat for Cabo. They're pretty highly rated via Trip Advisor. Paypal'd my $350, exchanged communications specifying we wanted a private tour for much the same reasons as Cartegena. Just in case we need to make changes on the fly. Everything was all booked, confirmed, and set. A month or so later I get a random phone call from them saying they think maybe we would rather their short tour because maybe the 3+ hours wasn't a good fit for us. :scared: Didn't help I was totally out of it on cold-meds when she called. Anyway, she called a few more times. It started out they were trying to talk me into this shorter tour. Then it was trying to talk me out of the tour altogether. She even tried "Well I know it's a very expensive tour and I'd hate for it to be wrong for you." Which was really funny because I've paid more than double for shorter charters so I didn't think it was expensive at all. Finally I got her to fess-up to what was really going on. They had messed up and double booked. She wanted us to pair up with another family. But, with FIL's needs I just didn't see that being the best option for us. That's why I booked something private to begin with. By then I was not feeling so good booking with them anyway so I cancelled. In the end, I'm glad it didn't work out. When I had to sit back down with my MiL to discuss other options for our Cabo day, sailboat charters came up. They've never been sailing before and she seemed super excited to give it a whirl. I love to sail & have always wanted to go with my hubby and sons. So there! We found a fabulous private sailboat charter that really will be so much more than what Rogers would've been. Costs more, yes, but that wasn't a problem from the get-go. I'd rather pay more to get more. Ya know?

Vallarta: my in-laws are doing the town & tequilla tour thru the cruise line. My 19 yro is so adamant he wants to do Las Celetas. This being his graduation celebration trip we want it to be his wishes. ;)

I still haven't decided exactly what date to do my son's (homeschool) graduation! LOL! He says he wants the day to be Panama Canal day but I don't want to clutter that day with to-dos. I was wanting to keep the actual canal day as open as possible. So I was thinking one of the at-sea days, maybe the first formal night. It'd be neat for him to get pics with Mickey and/or the captain all dressed up holding his diploma. I need to nail down the date soon, tho, so I can get his diploma, etc. ordered! LOL!

Yes! I am very excited to take a tour with her. She has been great to work with. Our group is up to 9 people already.

That is nuts about the Rogers Boat people. I hope they gave you your deposit back! Sailing is so wonderful. I get sick every time I go, but I still go 5 or 6 times a year on San Diego Bay! I do not know what we are going to do in Cabo, yet.

I wanted to do the tequilla tour but we have a four year old...so that did not work out so well. I am not sure what we are going to do there.

All I have set is Cartagena and Cozumel. We are going to go to Paradise Beach for a few hours and then back to the downtown to do some shopping. I collect art landscapes of city we visit and frame them and hang them all in our stairwell, and I also collect gold/brass Christmas ornaments, so I will try to get both of those items before heading back to the ship.

Congrats to your son about the graduation! Ya know, It might be sort of symbolic to do his graduation on PC day as we will be transitioning from East to West, he will be transferring from child to adult as he makes that final step in to adulthood by graduating from college. Perhaps you could do the "graduation" between the two sets of locks and then celebrate at dinner that night, or you could always have the official graduation celebration another night. My graduation was one night and my graduation party/celebration was that weekend. PS have you seen the Mickey ears graduation cap? They had them at Disneyland!

Think I will leave the ship and grab a cab there and get a cab straight back to the ship again after a few hours. Do you think this is safe for a lone female? As others have posted they do advertise being open every day and I guess it will be very crowded as on a Sunday so many other places are closed.

Hmmm...I do not know about being a lone female. We are a family of 3 if you want to be our 4th passenger and split a cab on the way there, you are more than welcome to! We will leave as soon as the ship opens up for passengers to get off. You may be able to join up with a family returning to the ship for the return as well. From what I understand, we will be the only ship in port that day, so the area will be kind of "quiet".

Oh yes! They refunded right away. No problem there! :-)

My friend/TA has been to Paradise Beach a few times and recommended it. I almost wish I hadn't gotten my FiL so keen on the Secret River. LOL! We'll have a nice beach day at Las Celetas, tho. I think your shopping sounds fabulous, too! First time I ported in Coz my brother & I were both sick trying to survive vacation. We ended up in the Mega store across from Margaritaville right down from the cruise pier. Easy walk. Mega was so neat to me! I describe it as Mexican Walmart! LOL! So many products were packaging and visuals I recognized but everything in Spanish. It was so surreal! Obviously I'm easily entertained, huh? Heehee!

I should have my son come thank you. You just nailed it. It's just high school graduation (he'll be 19 because he wanted to add a year to finish with Physics & Pre-Cal/Trig) but it IS a transition for him, a significant moment as he moves from one season of life to the next. So, graduation shall be on Canal day!

Hubby & I were JUST at Disneyland 2 weeks ago & I didn't see the 2015 graduation hat ears. Are they out??? You saw them??? I neeeeed them! Need to get Chandler's name embroidered on, too! Yeah, we were planning to skip the traditional cap & gown for the mouse ears & maybe a tshirt. Flip flops are definitely in order!8-)

EDIT: I googled and found the 2015 ones! http://www.yourwdwstore.net/Disney-...ad-Hat--Graduation-Class-of-2015_p_29977.html
