For those of you still needing to fly in, it should be interesting to see how the whole airport thing turns out. We were supposed to fly out Friday and stay in Orlando until our cruise on 9/9. Of course that wasn't happening! Since we were going to be there for a while, we were going to rent a car from Budget and drive to the port. Now, we have been able to switch or Budget rental (as well as our flight) to Mon. But while te flight is scheduled to land around 1 p.m., the car rentals are only being accepted starting at 4. Weird! We might just end up switching to Happy Limo, but I'm concerned with the limo companies not being able to find gas. At this point I don't know what to do anymore!

(((HUGS))) I hope that everything works out for everyone this week. It is going to be crazy & possible chaos for a few days while damage is assessed & things start to function again. I also hope that everyone stays safe during the hurricane.

Barb,
As you know we are on the 9/9 cruise too.:sunny: Our problem is a little different. We live in the panhandle and have plans to drive. We are to leave Tuesday after work, drive to Gainesville, spend the night, and drive to the Port and spend the night at the Radisson. I have fears of bumper to bumper traffic trying to get back to South FL, no gas, hotels not having our rooms (due to the evacations), the Radisson not having electricty, and there being nowhere to eat in PC.

I hope eveything works out for you and Tony. It is so frustrating no knowing what to do. Here's hoping we all make it.

P.S. Over on our 9/9 thread we are all talking about meeting and with all of us being first timers we were hoping you could recommend a location.

I can tell you that gas is a major problem right now here in Florida. The east coast basically ran out Thursday night from Palm Beach through Orlando. Most of our stations here in Naples are out of gas and we're being told that we won't get any until next week. They may also be rationing the gas like they did after Charley. Power is out all over the east coast and they're being told it could be a week prior to it returning. Remember, no power, no gas. Credit cards won't work either without power and phones.
I would closely monitor the situation here in Florida prior to coming down. The hotels may still be filled with locals and I would think they would be very hard pressed to kick them out if they still need shelter, but I could be wrong.

I called Happy Limo to get a reservation for Monday to go to the port. They told me to call back on Tuesday that they weren't taking any new reservations until then. When I told them I needed it for Monday (the 6th) they went ahead and made my reservation, but they did say that space was very limited due to the amount of people needing rides to the airport. They made me feel like I was lucky to get a spot. I did indeed feel lucky! I tried calling FL Tours and couldn't get through because the line was busy. They also said that if for some reason we couldn't make it, because of airlines or closures we would be refunded 100%. I wouldn't wait until the last minute if you are seriously thinking of using them. I'm hoping the same as you, that they will not be out of gas. But, I figure if there is a lot of traffic they will know a better way to get there than I will. :)

Scary! We're still trying to figure out what to do for transportation...sounds like I'd better decide ASAP! Hubby and I are watching the weather obsessively, trying to predict whether the airport will be open on Mon. Where is Miss Cleo when you need her?!
