We took our first cruise...Disney of course....in April last year. We had a category 6 stateroom with a veranda. It was wonderful! Would like to book a 7 day, but the prices for a veranda room are way out there. Has anyone previously cruised with a veranda, then downgraded the next time to just an oceanview? I think it would be disappointing, because we really enjoyed our own private spot by the water. But would like to know any others who may have downgraded so they could go again.

Thanks.

We just did that this year. In 2003 (4 day) we had a Cat 4 (free upgrade from the cat 7 we booked). This year we took a 7 day cruise, but in order to afford to go we had to book a Cat 11. I did not have a bit of problem with this.

We spent lots of time on the comfy chairs on deck 4.

If downgrading is the only way you can go. DO IT!

The room doesn't make the trip wonderful, the ship does.

Or try a SPR on deck 5. they go fast ,, so if you get a cruise that is not sold out maybe you can get lucky... We had 6045,, not a problem.. only one bathroom though.. Try for the deluxe standard if you can. You spend most of the time on deck anyway..

Good luck

We had the verandah for our first cruise, and not since. I've explained to DD that I can do 2 cruises in an inside cabin or 1 cruise with the verandah, and she'd prefer more time on the ship. Really don't miss it at all....but then, I'm travelling as a single mom, and not looking for a romantic breakfast on my verandah!

I've cruised twice with my family in an inside stateroom. The way we cruise, we spend very little time in the room. Mostly were outside, at the shops, shows or in the resteraunts. We have never felt we needed a private balcony. There are always areas of the ship you can go to outside that are somewhat private. At least less congested than the pool areas. I dont think you will miss not having a verandah.

We have always had a verandah and I am not at the point where I will not book one again (unless I get to try the Cat 3:) We almost never sit out on the verandah. It finally dawned on me that we just don't use it enough to justify the cost.

Book whatever is available and right for your personal needs. We have cruised with, and without, a verandah and enjoyed every trip. Very little time is spent in the stateroom.

If you decide without a verandah, you can always spend time at the aft deck 7 to get your "vernadah fix".

Bon Voyage!

:wave2: We were just on the Wonder for our first cruise with a verandah. While it was nice, we never sat out there. Always too busy during the course of the day and way too tired after getting the children to bed in the evening. We didn't spend that much time in the room anyway. If I was going with only my DH I would go with a verandah again, but not with the children along.

Have a good trip with a good attitude to make the most with what you can afford.

:cheer2:

We had a Cat 6 mid-ship room our first cruise and a Cat 9 aft room the second cruise and didn't miss the verandah at all . Our kids were a year older and didn't take but one nap so we rarely found ourselves in the room.

I was usually up early in the morning and took the chance to go up on Deck 9, get some coffee and wander Deck 9 and 10. It was so fun to see folks (not many) doing the same thing and watch as we pulled into St. Maarten.

At night we were either in the shows, at dinner (late seating) or doing the late adult shows so we never would have sat out there anyways.

The cost savings is more than worth it IMO

FYI: we're Cat 9 forward this time so we're exploring the ship little by little!
