After hearing from all the great feedback from DU, decided to check and get a quote for the same cruise I booked with DCL.

Well DU costs 330.00 more than DCL!

DCL agreed to give us the CAT 12 price even though we are 4 ( clerk said we would be given a CAT 11 since we are 4 ) DU does not do this. If you are 4, then you cannot get CAT 11 for the price of CAT 12.

So price for a DCL 7 day western carribean MAy6th-13th 2006, ground tansfers and insurance: 3564.00 Cat 12 for 4 people.

DU cat 11 same cruise with ground transfers and insurance: 3884.00 this is with the instant credit offer. Original price was 4034.72.

Am I missing something? I would like to get your opinions.... Has this ever happened to you?

:goodvibes NO, this comes as quite a surprise. I would let Dreams know about it though. And just to confuse you more, seeing that you are a family of 4, it is very expensive to book your transfers through Disney. We are 4, and always use a towncar service. It is MUCH cheaper than going with Disney. Also, a rental car is another (cheaper) option...

Insurance and ground transfers I always get on my own. We literally save hundreds of dollars. Just giving my 2 cents...

This happened to me....my quote from DU came in $200 higher than DCLs. I was disappointed but finally I went to Sam's Club Travel...which I bought thru Wal-Mart Travel website....which I bought through Upromise. Complicated?? I priced out the same cruise on DCL, DU, AAA, Expedia, Travelocity, Sam's & Wal Mart.....Sam's/Wal Mart came in the lowest.

I would definitly give Dana a call before you decide which TA to transfer your ressie to. www.micdan.com call and talk to Dana or leave a message for her. Tell her you are interested in transferring an existing ressie to her, but you would like to know the price before doing so. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised. I know I always am :-)I am nost certain that she will be able to beat Allseas and definitly be able to beat DCLs price.

And to answer your original question, yes it has happened to me. I rebooked while on board, and looked into transfering the ressie to DU and doing so would have saved me no money whatsoever.......than I found Dana :-)

I just wanted to clarify something. Dreams Unlimited will indeed book you in a category 12 (guarantee) if that is what you want even with 4 in a cabin (however it used to be you could only book 3, but in the past several months DCL has changed this and allows quad space to be booked in the category 12 cabins.) There may be times that they move you to a category 11 depending on circumstances (no cat 12's available, or you want 2 rooms and want to be near each other so instead of going GTY you get a cabin assignment in a cat 11) but Dreams should NEVER EVER be higher than DCL direct if you get the quote at the same time. Yes, pricing can go up even in the same day (although it's unusual to increase same day.) Often the category 11 and 12 cabins price exactly the same (or sometimes the cat 11 is even lower than the 12.)

You should check with the agent that priced this for you at Dreams, and also verify that the details of the cruise were exactly the same. It doesn't sound as if you have an identical quote here (the pricing difference is too much.)

Dzneprincess--Dreams definitely could have saved you money on anything you booked on board. If you transferred the reservation over you would have received your discounted onboard booking pricing and the Dreams rebate on top of that. I don't understand how you would not have saved money on that one. Im sure Dana has been good to you though--don't get me wrong here. I was just curious as to how transferring the existing reservation would not have saved you money when you would be getting an additional rebate.

I also recommend using a Town Car service for a family of 4 over DCL transfers, as it can almost always save you some money, but to each his or her own on transportation. Some prefer to stay with DCL transfers, while others prefer the Town Car.

I always use

www.dfwcruises.com

and Carol has beaten all of the above quotes each time we sailed

and it is nice to speak to an actual agent each time as well, instead of booking with an internet only type company where you can't reach someone via phone when you want to

Don't forget to try Costco Travel too. I switch two ressies to them and saved almost 10% off each. One of them was a ressie I booked on board so I got the 10% off for rebooking onboard plus the $200 ship credit and then transferred to Costco and saved an additional 10% on top of that. Made me very happy. When I transferred our August Repo cruise to Costco, I saved $422. Dreams only offered $200 rebate.

I'm sticking with Costco since I get better deals with them.
