I know it is a BAD use of points. However, we are starting to think about using some point and some cash for a trip. How does that work? Can we ch
choose which travelers to use points for and which to use cash for?

We are a family of 5.

If we use 2 staterooms- do I have to look at 3 adult fares and 2 kids or would it still be just 2 adults and 3 kids?

The lead guest in each stateroom must be paid for with points. After that you can choose how each person is paid for. Each person must be paid for with either all points or all cash. The cash rate will be a pre-negotiated rate between DVC and DCL. It will not be the current rate available on the DCL website. Sometimes the pre-negotiated price is higher than the DCL website, sometimes it is lower.

The first two guests in each cabin pay the full adult fare, even if they are children. After that you would pay the fare for each child, which varies depending on their age. That means you would be looking at 4 adult fares and 1 child fare if you go with two staterooms. Do some research and price it out. Two staterooms are often cheaper than one stateroom for 5, even when paying the adult fares. Another added bonus is you will have more space, two TVs, two bathrooms, etc.

To add to the above, you will also pay your $95 exchange fee at time of booking and any cash portions will be due in full at booking with a credit card. In other words, no deposits.

The cancellation policy is hefty when booking with DVC points, so be sure to check that out too. Good luck!

Thanks, As I see it for a 5 night from Miami the family suite is $3250. So, we could use 170 points for one adult and child and then pay $1900 for the rest of us...

I am trying to figure if it being "Disney" is worth that or just do Carnival- as they seem to be the only other cruise line for 5...

We are doing the 2 trips in 2013, 1 in 2014..

So, instead of doing park trip in 2015- we thought of either cruising or doing a trip to BWV but then going to (gasp) universal and sea world and then veg...
