if I booked a Disney cruise paying cash, do I get a discount since we are DVC members?

My guide mentioned one of his clients used points for one cruise person and paid cash for others on resveration. I know using points on a cruise is not the best use of points butwanted to find out how to get a discount if there was one.

We are new members and just bought direct Poly.

No, no discounts. What you can do is book on points for as little as 1 adult and as much as the entire cabin. You can then pay cash for the rest at the pre-negotiated rate which is around 10% off the rack rate. Almost always the return on a per point basis is in the $6-$7.50 per point range it does vary. If you have enough points you may want to look to see. Almost always the price (or effective price) is far more than any discounted direct rate. I've only seen one instance directly where the return was $10 pp and I've seen one person that said there's was $18 pp but I'm skeptical. Also, there are significant other issues and risks with booking on points or a combo including that any cash amount if due in full at at the time of booking.

If you are on a cruise, a DVC member and you have a purchase of $50 or more on board, you get a 10% discount.
