Cruise Question

I've gotten information regarding the cruise, and I have a couple of questions. First of all, while I know that the podcast team is not a huge fan of the Bahamas, I KNOW that DH will not be content to stay on the ship. We have discussed getting a room at Atlantis and then using the water park all day. However, if we do that, we really won't get to see anything else while we're there, because I don't think we'll have time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong there.

My question is if I don't make any excursion plans on either day (Bahamas or Castaway Cay), will we have plenty to do? I'm not asking anyone to open up the top secret folder and tell me what is planned for the podcast cruise. I'm asking in general. We could even pretend that this wasn't the podcast cruise, but a normal cruise. Are we going to have enough to do if we don't make plans and just wing it on those two days? And, staying on the boat is not going to be part of the day.

I have been to the Bahamas many times and have never taken part in an excursion or paid to use the water park area of Atlantis.

Nassua has a shopping area besides the straw market and while it's not the prettiest port in the Caribbean....I have never felt unsafe walking around the ship area.

Also...Atlantis is huge and there is a small shopping area right near there as well. There is also the casino and all of the stuff to see in Atlantis itself. Please keep in mind that should you choose to have lunch at Atlantis....it's pretty pricey.

Nassua also has some beautiful beaches that are only a cab ride away.

I find that we usually run out of time before we run out of things to do....I would think this would be true especially if it's your first time there.

Castaway Cay is a beach destination. If you are not a beach person , or a bike riding person, or a person that likes to sit and have beach cocktails,,,,you might want to bring a book or magazine or a movie on your iTouch (before you write to me....I know thats not the name...I did it on purpose). You could also schedule a massage or some gym time.....or do what John does....nap. Castaway Cay is the last day before returning home and nap time is slipping away.

As for the Podcast plans....I will be 100% honest. I do not think we have anything solidified enough to announce. I can tell you that DCL has stated that we would be able to use more of the public areas for larger groups on port days when many guests would be ashore, so I would assume that there will probably be activities during the port times.. What they may be will be announced eventually / someday / soon / in the futire.

Something else to keep in mind....there will be a boatload of your lunatic friends traveling with you. I would pretty much assume that there will be no free time what-so-ever. Are you aware that Mindy and Rex and Alicia and Lisa will all be in one place at one time? You're not going to have three minutes to string together let alone down time.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Kevin. DD is now into using her itunes money to download to her itouch. :) I seriously am not looking for podcast information. I just think we have decided that we really aren't interested in any of the excursions this first time. We've learned when helping first timers going to WDW that less is more, and I wanted to make sure the same held true for the cruise.

Boat load of friends?!?!?! Okay, you're probably right on that one, and I'll be using my remaining days of vacation recovering from all of the fun on the boat that we had.

I have been thinking about the different possibilities on Nassau. I am not sure what my step mother is going to want to do. I have a feeling she will be joining John and Kevin on their gambling adventure :lmao: .

I was thinking about possibly doing the Segway tour. I love Segways. I have done both the Epcot and Fort Wilderness Segway tours. I want to do the Ft. Wilderness one again. Maybe on the Podcast trip or maybe on my next big trip (maybe April 2010, don't you just hate how we can't plan one trip at a time ;) )

Or maybe one of the dolphin encounters. Or maybe just stay onboard and see what the podsquad has planned for us.

A little over a month to decide and make the plans. O WOW. I cant believe it is that close.

DH and I are just gong to stay on the ship and enjoy whatever is going on there. The last time I did the 4 day cruise, I did not do any excursions and did not feel the least bit cheated. Honestly neither my DH nor I have any desire to go out and about on this one; we are looking forward to relaxing on the ship and taking part in whatever craziness we can get into.;)

The other option I was thinking of was shopping in the straw market for a new purse or 2. I love purses and someone said they have good knock offs there.

Is it possible to just get off the boat, roam around for a little bit maybe buy some trinkets, and reboard the ship?:confused3 How difficult is it to disembark and reembark?

There are Segway Tours? Well, I think that DH has just decided what he wants to do. Me on the other hand. It might be a really cold day before I ever get on one of those again.

My daughter loves going to the Straw Market to get her knock off Kate Spade bags. I just stay on the ship and enjoy myself.

It is nice and quiet by the pool. I also go to one of the movies while we are docked in Nassau. I don't miss getting off the ship at all!!!

It is a 2 hour tour through a nature reserve. I think it is similar to the Ft. Wilderness tour. It is on the list of excursions on the DCL site. If I remember correctly, the charge is $75.

Got a question regarding excursions. If we did choose to do one, can our kids stay in on the boat in the kids' area or is that not an option? Can we use the kids' area as "babysitting"?

Yes- the kids can stay in the kids club while you get off the ship. But if I recall correctly, the pagers don't work in Nassau. That was one of the reasons we stayed onboard the last time we did a 4 night (the kids were 3 and 5 or 4 and 6 or something like that and it was just too young for me to leave.

I think we're likely to stay onboard again in while in Nassau. Having a (relatively) uncrowded ship is a huge plus- there are still activities planned onboard and there there will be a podcast event or two...:rolleyes1

Having said that- the segway thing looks interesting. We did the epcot tour in October and had a blast.

DH wants to do the Segway tour. I'm fine not doing it. Maybe we'll stay on the ship during that time.

My tentative plan is to get off the ship early check out the Straw Market and Atlantis and then head back to the ship. Knowing Our Pod Squad, the events will not be in the morning. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Unless Regina is in charge of scheduling...(remember Chef Mickey's.);)

Are we starting another cruise thread that I can't keep up with ;)

Yes, but this one has nothing to do with cake, so it's really not important. I thought my question might get lost in the "real" cruise thread.

Don't you have to have a license to do this? Small cities could be powered with this much energy in one location.

First you doubt the podcasters omnipotence, now you doubt the abilities of AskTracy? Wow. You think you know somebody.......:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
