I don't do social media but always liked getting to know my fellow cruisers on the DISboards.
But apparently everyone is on FB, so for the first time ever we aren't doing FEs on this cruise because I don't have a FB account (nor do I want one -- if I could find an emoticon of someone sticking their finger down their throat and gagging I would put it here as that is how I feel about FB!)
And therein was the major issue for me. We've done FE groups that were very active (upwards of hundreds of pages), and some that were less active. Most of those did all the Cruise Meet group "business" directly here on DISboards, reserving FB and other sites for more personal, specific interaction.
Our last two cruises that we did FEs, basically, everything was "come on over to FB, that's where we are". And, as another "I don't do FB" person, I was pretty much cut off from any participation beyond someone coming back to the DISboard group thread and posting "this is what we've got planned, do you want to participate?" Feeling like a second-hand citizen. That was on one of them. The other, no one ever came back here to even let us know what was going on.
I've participated in FE groups both on DISboards as well as another board I frequent. For the same cruise. Each group was separate unto itself and each was successful. I get it that DISboard Cruise Meet groups should be managed on DISboards and any other site, if they want to set up their own FE groups, more power to them. But what was happening was those people who migrated to FB, and other sites, were waiting until someone would set up a Cruise Meet thread here and then posting "We have a group already set up (and posting the link to it)" Pretty much gutting anything anyone on DISboards wanted to do.
