Has anyone ever cruised in January before. We are going on a Western DCL next January and was wondering what to expect with the weather and the seas (we are prone to seasickness - yuck!). We did the Western last year in May and the weaather was beautiful all week and the seas were very calm.

Thanks! New here :wave2:

We cruised in January in 2004. The weather was good and the seas were calm. We were able to wear shorts everyday and were very comfortable. We found the Western route has been calmer seas over the Eastern route.

:cold: We sailed in Jan and the ports of Key West and Cozumel was awesome, but once we would hit open sea it would get cold and rough. The problem with Winter is what they call a Nor-Eastern wind from the North. I can make the seas very rough and you can get cold air ecspecially at night. Our last night we had 20-30 foot waves crashing over our port hole window!! I could not believe it. Luckily we were not prone to sea sickness. Our hangers where shaking and we felt like we were on Thunder river at Six Flags. I know I will not sail again in January!!!!!! :guilty: I am sticking with late fall or Spring.
I have to say our ports were great....I was just afraid to get back on the ship!

We did the Western in January 04. We had great weather - the wind started to blow a bit while we were in Cozumel. We wore shorts and tee shirts at every port and swam (tho the water was COLD)! Castaway Cay had the coldest water of all - only DS10 braved the water there. One night the boat rocked while we slept. We actually enjoyed it. Next time we are going sail at the end of the summer for warmer water, but we really enjoyed our January trip as well.

We were on a 4 day this past January, and noticed very little movement overall. There was one night, (our first) that the movement was evident, but never once felt seasick. The rest of the cruise was very smooth. The air temperature was very pleasant, but the water at Castaway Cay was very cold. I did get in cuz another dad was and I wasn't going to be shamed by him, but fortunately the kids gave up before I had to! We still enjoyed the beach and the island, just didn't spend much time in the water compared to our other cruise which was in April.

Hope this helps...

Mike

We sailed Eastern in Jan 2003 and Western in Jan 2004 and both weeks were wonderful! We were able to go to Castaway Cay both times and had gorgeous 75F days! We are from Ontario so we braved the water ~ even my parents in their 70's were able to swim.

Go for it!

I have cruised throughout the year, and the winter months have always had the "worst" weather and seas. I still had a blast, but just be aware that you are more prone to rough seas, and cooler temps. Especially at Port Canaveral.

So can you still get those sea sickness patches? Do they make them for kids, too? I guess you get them from your doc before you go???

We've sailed twice, both in January (04 - Eastern, 05 - Western). We had great weather each trip. Very warm on the islands and at sea. Night could be a little chilly sometimes. Water was warm enough to swim each day and we had only about 10 mins of rain or so in St. Maarten. We love to get away from the cold New England winter and hit the Caribbean.

I also have cruised twice in January, 04 and 05....and loved it. I think January is perfect...not too hot but not too cool. Both trips I managed to get sunburned plenty to where it hurt. I prefer to go during the winter months....:)

I am actually scheduled to go again September of 06 but am thinking I cant wait that long....will probably switch it to ummmmm January lol.

Good too see you theWog. I dont come here much anymore because I am SO DARN JEALOUS of these people!!! lol
