This forum is the best on the Internet! I'm hoping for some help! We are attempting to book our own cruise excursion (on August 10th) to save some money to WWOHP. Our Carnival cruise will arrive in port at 7:00 am and will leave at 7:00 pm.

Is a rental car the easiest way to get to and from the Port? What time should we leave? Is traffic an issue? We don't want to miss our ship!

Will this give us enough time if we only are going to try to do Harry Potter for the day?

If we book the four of us with Carnival, it's $680! I'm thinking we could do it on our own for around $450.
Any suggestions or advice is so appreciated!!
Thanks!

i guess it depends on where your port is located.

some dates and days have less crowds in the uo parks. august does have crowds but with tehe 10th on a wednesday, it should be ok.

parry hotter always has its crowds.

but, if you are dire hard fans, go for it.

some time with harry is better than no time with harry.

consider your travel time to and from the port.
if you are pushed for time, a rental car would be the smoothest way i assume.

hopefully others will stop by and be of better help than i am.

You have to include gas, tolls and parking. Make sure you include those when you crunch your numbers.

My guess is you'll have a little more park time if you book the excursion. You'll have to allow enough time for traffic, rental return and shuttle back to your ship.

hmmm you might want to go thru the ship. if you get tied up in traffic on the way back they won't leave without the whole excursion group but if your on your own they won't wait for you. that would be awful!!

I cruise often and there is no way I would risk an excursion that far from port on my own.

If you do try it, make sure you double the time for returning to port of what you think it will take.

Book the excursion. We are doing the same thing in February on our cruise...I just wouldn't want to risk it to save a couple hundred of dollars, the ship won't leave without you if you are on one of their excursions. It would be worth it to just get on the bus and go straight to the park instead of having to get off the ship, get the rental car, figure out how to get there, like someone else menioned tolls and then parking....I think excursion is the way to go.
