Is the coffee real or is it the same Nescafe stuff they provide at WDW? Do any of the categories provide a coffee maker?

The coffee is NOT nescafe. Not sure if it is perk or drip, but it is fine. I usually drink "gourmet" coffee at home, and dislike coffee at many places, but I thought the coffee onboard was good.

I don't think coffeemakers are allowed, probably due to being a fire hazard.

Sorry, but the coffee is Nescafe -- the signs are on all the coffee makers, and the waiters confirmed it for us.

:(

We cruised in October and last May and both trip we definitely had "real" coffee. Perhaps the drink station has Nescafe (personally I never saw a sign on a coffee maker because what I drank was brought to me and was not Nescafe!)

Perhaps that is the confusion, that the drink station has instant? This topic has come up several times before and there is definitely real coffee available onboard.

That was definately a pet peeve of mine our last cruise (dec 2002). I thought the coffee was awful!!! Granted, I am a coffee snob. I live for a good cup of coffee. I know a bad cup of coffee when I taste it and their's was BAD!!! This year I am bringing a small coffee maker and some Peet's.

I know they opened up a coffee bar on board and it is reported they make great drinks...can't wait.

I don't think coffee makers are allowed but I plan on ordering tea water from room service and bringing a small coffee press.

My husband is a coffee snob, too (Starbucks and Barnies), and he swears the ship stuff is instant even though they tell him no. I think he would bet his life savings that it is Nescafe.

Thanks for the answers=the coffee press idea is a good one. Won't take up too much room.

We have always thought the coffe was great on the Disney boats. I must say we never got it from the coffee station on deck though. Maybe it is different depending on where you get it from?

ok, I like my coffee, alot - especially in the morning. When we went to the lunch buffet at Parrot Cay after we got on the Magic, I ordered coffee to drink. It was horrible. Tasted like Sanka. So I asked the server if it was real coffee and he said yes. I asked again, to make sure there was no language barrier - he again said it's reall coffee hesitated and said nescafe. So I think they think nescafe is real coffee. There is only nescafe available on deck 9's drink station.

I will also say that was the only bad cup of coffee I had the whole cruise in the dining rooms. It seemed like the rest of the cruise they used real coffee at least in the dining rooms. We also went to Palo and that was definately not nescafe.

I think that TMTIP is correct, and that the coffee is different at different locations. Cruisers have been told that at least some of the coffee is brewed, and I have absolutely no doubt that what I drank was definitely NOT instant.

So it may be that the coffee at the coffee station and/or some other places is instant (or just not fresh), but since I don't ever drink "old" coffee I would not even try that at the coffee station on deck 9. Also, getting coffee at lunch on a cruise is probably asking for old coffee, since I don't expect much coffee is consumed then. It has been mentioned that the umbrella of the Nescafe brand now actually includes regular bean coffee as well as the instant stuff, so perhaps if someone was told the coffee was Nescafe they incorrectly assumed instant.

Anyway, I had coffee every single morning. While it was not the absolute best I had ever had in my life, it certainly was perfectly acceptable and freshly brewed/perked.

For the volume they do, I can't see them using instant type coffees. It doesn't make sense, in a lot of ways. Now, stuff in your room, maybe. But not in the restaurants.

When we were at Palo's, our waiter asked if we wanted coffee. I said, "What kind of coffee is it?" He said, "Nescafe."

Now, there may be some sort of ground (not instant) Nescafe that they use onboard, but I was not impressed with it anywhere I drank it. The 9th deck was the worst, by far, but room service coffee also tasted pretty awful. Dining room coffee was about the same quality as you get from the generic gas station coffee bars -- fine for a passing cup of coffee, but not a Twin Peaks coffee experience.

I read on an earlier thread that the coffee was terrible, and on a recommendation posted there, I bought a two cup Melitta coffee maker to take along on our cruise. The original poster said she takes her Cuisinart two cup coffee maker along. Am I not going to be able to take it now??? I don't drink coffee, but my DH can't live without it and I know won't drink instant, if that proves to be the case. I hope someone has an answer before I start packing... Thanks.....Corie:wave2:

Didn't they just open up a new coffee bar on the Magic???? I'd hope that they'd sell good "real" coffee here.

Did a search on Amazon and found this nice UNBREAKABLE one for less than $12!

No REAL coffee snob who even step foot in Starbucks.

Seriously, I work graveyard, and have for 24 years. I probably have consumed more coffee than several of the coffee drinkers on this board combined. The coffee in the regular dining rooms on the Magic was just fine. Typical upper end restaurant quality coffee. Probably not gourmet. Never drank any coffee at the beverage station, but the machine appeared to be a coffee brewing urn.
Frankly, I think proper preparation also matters. A co-worker makes the worst coffee I have ever tasted. He brings in his own Peets. That's what he and his wife used in their coffee shop. I should mention the shop went bankrupt. But he ALWAYS insisted on using twice the amount of grounds as directions suggested.

Yes....they do an awesome Almond Latte!

I wouldn't consider myself a coffee snob but I also work overnight shifts and drink a fair amount of coffee. DH and I both have liked the coffee they serve at the Deck 9 beverage station on our two cruises with DCL. Maybe it's because my first cup of the day is poured before dawn and enjoyed while I do my mile walk on Deck 4... :cloud9:...a little slice of heaven....(and it's not instant - that I couldn't drink)...

Someone posted the last time this subject came up that they now use a Nescafe liquid concentrate, so I guess that's not technically "instant". They now use a liquid concentrate in my company's cafeteria, and depending on who's making it, it's better than the other stuff they had because there is less room for error. I'd still hardly call it coffee. I just wish Dunkins would sponsor something so I can get my fix!

I was on the Magic Eastern 8/7/04. I didn't like any of the coffee, especially from room service. I didn't figure out until the cruise was almost over that if I ordered an espresso (which you have to pay for, but not much) I could add some of it to the regular coffee and it made it taste much better. One espresso made at least a couple of cups of decent coffee. I discovered this by going to The Cove and lamenting to the woman at the coffee bar about the quality of the coffee and she was the one who suggested I try this. I was able to get espresso in the dining room, even in the morning, but the waiter had to go somewhere else to get it. It was too late in the week to try this with room service, but I will next time (June '05) I'm a cream and sugar/sweetener user, just FYI. I don't consider myself a coffee snob, but I do like it strong.
