Eric - By "flowing" I meant for the words to "flow" in that I don't have to think so much about how to say what I want to say. German just doesn't sound right coming from me! But there is a German phrase stuck in my mind that I think means one thing but might turn out to mean another. When I meet you I'll see if you can translate my "garble."

About accents - I always love to hear "foreigners" (not American or British) speaking English with the accent of their own country. If they lose that and start sounding like an American (which could be any of <I>many</I> accents), it just isn't as appealing to me. I don't know why. :jester:

In this case I will sound very appealing to you :p

Did you see "Rat Race", the movie with Roan Atkinson, Whoopy Goldberg, etc. ? In this movie John Lovitz stumbles into a WWII-Veteran-Meeting. Unfortunately he is driving Hitler's car (It's a very weird movie), and due to a little accident he has a small burnmark on his upper lip, which looks like Hitler's moustache. And then he starts speaking "phonetic" German. He sounds absolutely German without speaking one German word. I watched the American DVD as the movie still runs in German cinemas. It is so funny!! It is similar, but not as good as Danny Kaye's appearance in "The Court Jester", where he speaks phonetic French, Italian, Danish and so on.

Hmmm . . . No, I don't think I've seen "Rat Race." I think I <I>might</I> be able to do a "fair" impression of a German speaking English. In my "youth" I studied dramatic arts in 5 countries in Europe and we did a lot of work with different dialects/accents. I wasn't perfect, but it was far better than my German. :jester: My problem with foreign languages is that I am too easily embarrassed when I mess it up - - but I like watching others embarrass themselves!

Rosemary,

I'm finally back from all the fun and reality is setting back in. Back to work.
Anyway, I was at a table of 8 for the first cruise and had a lurker DIS'er. She said she had tried several times to get on with a screen name but had yet to be successful. i unfortunately was of no help since I registered eons ago and couldn't remember how I had registered. The second week I was at a table for 4 and Sue is a poster but admits she's much more of a lurker. That was a great week and hopefully they will rebook for next Oct.
When we had dinner with the Staff Captain we were invited and everything was on the house. Very nice evening.

Back from the wedding now too. I was alot of fun. Tha reception was in the Gaylord Palms in Orlando and that resort is just HUGE. We didn't get to see very much of it but what we did see was impressive. It is actually owned by the Opryland people from what I've been told.

Also, we have rebooked for next year as well. Can't wait to go back again. Wish I could go before next Oct. Maybe if I'm really good about saving we'll be able to sneak in a 4 day. We will probably be staying at a DVC resort the night before. That worked out well for us this time.

Oh well, got to go for now. Been up since 3am so I could catch my flight home and work tonight. The tough thing though is I have to work morning shift tomorrow.

368 days to go!
Laundry is done and I am back to work:(
We were disaponited we did not get to see Mexico or Grand Cayman. I think I will do a little research on other possible ports this time;)
The countdown begins again!

We arrived about an hour ago. Spent 2 wonderful days at the parks after the cruise with Art and Cathy. We went yesterday afternoon to titusville and watched the shuttle lift off. Thanks for the tip John! Art and Cathy are spending one more day at the parks and are leaving wednesday to return home. Talk to everyone later. Mike

Had to make my own coffe this morning. Come on October 2003. Have our fingers crossed for the western next year. Mike

I'm glad to hear that everyone is safely back to reality. I love to hear all of your stories, because this will be my family's first cruise. The more I hear about other's experiences, the more excited I get. I have about 5 more weeks to wait before we book this cruise with our DVC points. I can't wait until I have an actual room assignment, then it will feel like we're really going.

We just returned from going to WDW for the day on Monday. Our DDs 1st birthday celebration turned out great. She even had a few CMs at MGM Studios sing Happy Birthday to her. Since she's only 1, she didn't know the difference, but I'll definitely remember it. We probably won't be heading back until the end of this month, when we will try to meet Taswira at the MNSSHP.

I'll be there! I'll be with my grown nephew. I think he is still going to be dressed "Gothic" and he wants me to do the same, but I'm still not sure yet. I am a bit wary of making myself look too scary or horrible (Do I need a costume for that?! ;) ), because I will be meeting you and several who are on the Halloween Wonder cruise <B>for the first time</B>. I keep thinking "<I>You never get a second chance to make a good first impression</I>" LOL! Ah, well - All in the spirit of Halloween! :bounce:

It was great meeting all the "dis ers" We had such a great time and of course booked for 10/11/03.......

Hi Folks,
welcome back everybody.

Mike,
that shuttle-launch was a blast (Yeah, I ´love your language;) ). We saw the pics from the new cam mounted on teh maintank on TV-WOAHHHH!!! We've been so often to FLA, but we never saw one of these great craft take off :(

BETTEMOM,
I'm looking forward to receiving your registration mail for our list. Please use the ling provided in miy signature.
:bounce: :Pinkbounc Welcome aboard - Herzlich Willkommen!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Shari,
if you didn't score with your first impression, there is a German phrase which can be very useful: (I try to translate it with a rhyme) If your good reputation is gone, everything may be done! :p
Unfortunately the most often said bonmot by our cruisedirector can't be used by our gang: "Remember Folks, you won't see any of these people again!" Better make that fortunately: We're so happy to see you (Again).

In that teleconference with DCL last week, it was pointed out that DCL has "<I>a higher percentage of first time cruisers (meaning first time guests with DCL) than any other cruise line</I>." I found it odd that it would be stated as a "good" thing. Shouldn't bragging rights go to the line with the most <I>repeat</I> cruisers? It seems DCL is looking at most guests as <I>one time only</I>, hence the cruise director's remark.

Yeah,
I had that impression too!! They were totally surprised at our last cruise, when they had to use Rockin' Bar D for the Return Cruisers Reception due to the large number. Usually they do it at a smaller location.
Yawn (Sorry ;) ), but now it's bed time - 1030pm over here and I've got to get up at 0600am tomorrow, my last night at the age of 38. Tomorrow I will be only 1 year away from the big FOUR-OH :( and have to pay breakfast for all of my colleagues.

Sorry, Eric - but being 50 I'm afraid I have <I>no sympathy</I> for you turning 39!

They had to use two lounges for the castaway cay reception on the 09/28 cruise. Rockin Bar D and sessions? I think that was the name. I really didn't pay attention. Got some great pictures and was able to use the mindstor portable hard drive so I didn't have to bring along a bunch of compact flash cards. Mike

Thanks a lot Shari!!
You were definitely the first to congratulate me as Anja was still asleep at this time.

The Youngster :jester:

Happy Birthday to you, Eric!!!

I hope you have a great day!
