CRT recent changes?

Hi,
Can someone who has gone to CRT recently, let me know what to expect these days? I know that the menu has been changed since September (I think) and then I read something about the swords not being given.. and that there isn't a "production" like there used to be at one time...

I'm wondering what exactly DOES happen now. I don't want to spend the money if the only thing we'll get out of it is a picture with Cinderella. There will be just one 6 year old boy with us, so the picture won't thrill him.

That being said, if I do change plans, what do y'all think of the Mickey's Backyard BBQ? Is that still an option? We would be going the beginning of March (I don't think it opens up for the year until March 1st).

If neither of those... is there another great place to go for fun and dinner? Doesn't have to be great food, although that's a plus, but I'm looking more for the "experience". We've done Hoop Dee Doo, and the day in question is an MK day. We would leave the park for dinner (or go after the park closes) if there is some other really fun option.

DH and I went for lunch for OUR birthday in Sept. and HE got a sword and I got a wand. HA! HA!
The food options are what have changed.
No porktenderloin and NO Chocolate-Creamcheese Buckle dessert (it was sooo good).
ALL of the princesses came to our table and they all are at Dinner now too.

ALSO, if you have never done OHANA your DH might love doing it for his 50th Bday (if you can snag a ressie).

Ohana is a nice meal, the Spirit of Aloha at the Poly is a nice show and meal. Mickeys Backyard BBQ is nice if they kids are young (under 6).

In December (2010) they were still giving out swords or wands. Each of the four princesses (Belle, Aurora, Ariel, and Snow White) had a little pre-recorded intro played when they entered the dining room (they came out at slightly staggered times - maybe five or so minutes between each). And there is still the picture with Cinderella downstairs.

Thanks to all of you! I think I'll keep the reservation. I really think the fun of eating in the castle will be worth it. I may order a chocolate slipper for my Mom. Do any of you know how I do that? I think it's $12.00. I can always look it up, but it's so much easier if someone already knows and doesn't mind answering!

I just ordered a slipper through the e-mail address (wdw.crt.special.events@disney.com) and received an e-mail back promptly with a choice of either dark chocolate or white chocolate as well as if I wanted a message on the plate. I was told it is $12.50 plus tax and gratuity.

Yes, there are princesses (which ones varies) at dinner, but no Fairy Godmother or mice.

You can call to order or e-mail. I wanted to use the e-mail option so my DDs wouldn't overhear me ordering it. If you do a search for CRT slipper, you can see some pics people have taken in the past.

She sent me a e-mail back with pictures of each and asked which one I wanted and if I wanted any message written on the plate. I decided to just write Princesses and my girls names since we aren't celebrating anything at this time and they can definitely split one.

From what I have read on these boards, only Princesses come to the meals at the castle now.

Did they tell you about the princess cakes? I got a response and they said they'd just introduced them. They're $60 + tax and gratuity. They are personalized 6in white cakes in either vanilla or chocolate and available in Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, or Tiana. Pic is below.

My dilemma - I'm going to get three of the slippers for my DD7 and her two cousins. However, my son is going to be there as well, dressed as a pirate. They don't have anything "special" for boys, so I'm trying to decide if the "decorate your own" cupcake would be enough for him or if I should try to something more. Anyone encountered a similar dilemma?
