I have reservations for CRT on my daughter's birthday. When we made the reservations, it was for me, DH, and DD. Now that DH can't go on our trip, I am bringing my friend and her 2 daughters (ages 2 and 9 months).

I called disney dining reservations, and they were unable to add 2 guests, but said that since the additional guests are not paid guests, that I won't be turned away at the restaurant. Does this sound right?

All DD can talk about is eating with Cinderella in her castle on her birthday. I really don't want to get the girls all dressed up and excited only to be turned away on her birthday.

You may or may not be seated. When making dining reservations the under 3 crowd still need to be counted in the party size due to fire codes and the maximum seating capacity. If it were one extra person I'd say you'd be almost guaranteed a table because you'd have been seated at a 4-top anyway. I think luck will be on your side though as the infant can sit in a high chair and a larger table won't be required.

You probably won't be turned away (but there is a very tiny possibility,) but you should expect to have an extra wait. Fire codes are based on how many people are in the restaurant, not how many people are sitting in their own chairs.

As a backup, I was able to get rereading for a party of 5 at askershus menu at 6:35 that evening, which honestly is a better time for us, but would require us to switch our park plans that day.

I doubt she'd realize the difference but IDK.

PP posters correct, every TS restaurant requires head count for occupancy fire code regulations. Just a thought but if you arrive to your ADR and they won't seat you, they will charge you the per person no show fee, so $30. CRT may be different given their process.

That's what I thought too, but the reservations cast member seemed pretty confident that we would be seated. I'll probably cancel just to be safe.

I'm not sure what the CM you spoke with was thinking. It is ridiculous they told you as the children won't be charged for a meal that it doesn't matter. Every person has to be accounted for, even tiny babies. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing ahead of time if they can accommodate you or not.

Keep the Akershus reservation as a back up, but keep trying to add the 2 guests at CRT. People cancel/change plans all the time, you may get lucky.

I really wouldn't worry. My SIL and BIL are locals and they can't plan 6 months in advance to join us for dinner. Before they started charging for no shows I just added them to all of our ressies, but it's not worth the risk now. They have spontaneously joined us for many meals where they weren't in the reservation count and we've never been turned away. Heck last year we showed up at Ohana for dinner with 8 and an ADR for 4 and it was no problem.

Since it is for a birthday, I would keep trying to get a CRT reservation that meets your needs (5)or use the back up. I wouldn't want the drama on that day, especially if you can avoid it. Good luck!

I called and added 1 to our reservation so it is a party of 4. The baby can sit on a lap. Crossing my fingers that it works out!

I think you'll be fine. When we ate there, I could only get a res for 4 and we were a party of 5 (my youngest was 5 mos old). The dining CM told me not to worry about it and just show up. I had the baby in a Baby Bjorn and we were seated no problem.

At a minimum you need a back up plan. I've seen people turned away because they showed up with too many. A body is a body

Chances are you will be, but be prepared just in case. Our last trip we had reservations for 4, and were a party of 5 with my youngest being 5 months and we were seated.

You will probably have to wait, although I'd call them directly and have your hotel concierge help you with the notification as well. Are you having a bday cake? Chocolate slipper? They're so divine! Hope your princess has a wonderful birthday!

I'm considering adding the "Her royal Highness" package, which comes with a cake. I really want to try the glass slipper, but with a birthday cake to eat, I doubt my tummy will have enough room! Something to save for next trip, I suppose !

This question is always interesting to me because there are always a few who quote fire codes and give the impression that you could be turned away because they have seen it. And there are always a few with first hand accounts of being seated with extra. I have not seen a first hand account of someone being turned away, only reports of it. I made reservations for 5 to account for a 4 month old but I don't see how my baby will even need a high chair. I have two kids and they never sat in a high chair that young. Baby will have to be worn in a carrier.... I wouldn't even be comfortable putting them in a high hair at that age. I realize they count for fire codes but it's just funny to me that this only seems to be a thing when talking about Disney.

All restaurants work exactly the same way, but very few restaurants in the real world are booked completely to capacity the way WDW restaurants are. The restaurant where I work doesn't even have enough chairs to reach the maximum capacity - our tables are spread out quite a bit more than the restaurants in WDW. We can be fully booked but still under the maximum capacity set by the fire marshal. Disney, on the other hand, packs people in as tightly as they're allowed and many of them are full from open to close, which is another thing that doesn't happen in the real world.

I'm going to assume that even though Disney books to maximum capacity, not every party shows up. There will always be the latest minute cancellation, the one person in the group who came down with food poisoning, the family that got their time mixed up, etc. So even though they are max booked, they are not max filled.
