We are going to try for CRT breakfast. We have done it before the changes, when they charged the deposit, and then again in May. But we had the DDP, so they took my CC# as a guarantee, but did not charge it. When we make the reservation this time we won't be on the DDP. So....will I pay the entire amount at the time of the reservation or will they take my CC# and only charge me if we don't show up??? I have seen some conflicting things. I seem to remember the Dining CM for our May trip telling me we would have to pay the meal in full at the time of the reservation if we were not on the DDP.....I could be wrong though.

My next question is: I am also going to try for the Chef's Table at V&A's for DH and myself in February. Is there a deposit for this?? Or for regular reservations if I cannot score the Chef's Table?

And one more for V&A's: This is a surprise for my DH that I was hoping to not even tell him about until we go. One problem. My DH does not own a jacket. Pretty much everyone we know is married, so we haven't had any weddings to go to, and we have 4 kids, so we don't have fancy evenings out EVER. He's a postal worker, so he doesn't need one for work. I have no clue what size jacket he wears, so I cannot even sneak out and buy one for him. He has suit-type pants, a shirt, and tie.....Xmas eve last year we dressed up for a party we went to.

I feel like a goof. You'd think a 34 yr old man would own a suit.

Anyway, I know they have jackets you can "borrow." Is this a huge deal?? Will we feel like rebel rule breakers showing up and asking to borrow one?? In other words, should I maybe just sneak out and wing it and buy one and hope it fits him?? :confused3

Personally, I would prefer to be wearing my own clothes during such a fine meal. I know others wouldn't care but I would want to feel good about how I look to properly enjoy V&A.

Yay! Just what I was looking for. DH's side. :) I often think he doesn't care about stuff like that, but I know he probably would. Thank you!

What measurements does one need to buy a suit jacket?? I know his arm length/neck from buying him dress shirts. I am sure that between now and February I could come up with SOME reason to measure him....actually he HAS been going on about how he should probably get a suit now that our little ones are older and we may get out more. If he keeps putting it off, I could always tell him my sister told me there was a good price somewhere, but they only had certain sizes...measure him, then tell him they weren't his size and sneak out and get him a nice one. :)

I so rarely get to surprise him, so I really, really do not want him to know until I tell him that day, "get in the shower and put this on, we are going to V&A's!!!" :teeth:

They do have jackets to borrow at V&A although we have not done so.

But I don't think that is the kind of surprise that I would spring on my husband. It is a very expensive meal that I would want to make sure he was interested in as well. Plus the anticipation is part of the fun! :thumbsup2

Can't remember about the deposit for Chef's Table or regular dining room...I'm sure Uncleromulus will remember. But I'm pretty sure you do need to leave a cc #.

Oh he has told me about 500 times that WE HAVE to try for the V&A's Chef's table on one of our trips. So this is something he does want to do. :rotfl:

I would never have sprung this on him otherwise, he gets all antsy when we go to the GF for anything. Usually, because he feels like he should be dressed better (even though I tell him he does not need a suit for 1900 park fair and noone expects him to have one on-lol). This time he will be!!! :thumbsup2

Maybe so he can enjoy the anticipation part, I can let him know we are going to V&A's, but if I do manage to get the CT, I won't share that part with him.

Oh well then it sounds like a wonderful surprise for him. Have fun and bon apetit! :sunny:

I booked CRT, not on dining plan, for October and had to pay in full at time of booking.

Suzanne-

Thanks!! That is what I thought. I'll need to make sure I get all the $$ transferred to my debit card account before I call. :thumbsup2

You will have to know his chest measurements. Suits come in sizes like 38, 40, etc. which are chest measurements. They also include the letters S (short), R (Regular) and L (long) which are more of a reflection of height. So a 40R would be a 40 inch chest with a Regular fit. The waist of the slacks are typically 6 inches less than the chest so in this example, a 40R suit would likely come with 34in. waist slacks. As most suits require the pants to be hemmed, I don't think you can sneak this past him. Buy the suit now, telling him it's essential to have one for weddings, funerals, and surprise trips to V&A.

:rotfl: I'll have to include the last one.....the only person we know who is not married or way too young to get married is my niece. She is engaged, but when you ask her if she set a date, she just shrugs and looks annoyed. :teeth: I have a feeling I'll be attending my DD's wedding before my niece's!

Thanks so much. I guess I get to go suit shopping! :woohoo: I'll probably have to get a dress for myself...since we are out and all. ;)

Not sure exactly how or when a credit card is "charged" at the Chefs table--been too long since we've done that.
And here's a tidbit--at the chef's Table (at least AT the table) you do NOT need a jacket. They will give you one to walk in the restaurant while GETTING to the Chefs table, and even if you need to go to the restroom!! But actually at the Chefs table you do not need a jacket--reason I think is that you aren't in the restaurant-you are in the kitchen.
As for a suit--I own one blue suit for funerals and weddings!! For dinner at V&A, I go with just a light blue blazer and tan slacks. Meets the code and is much easier to pack.

Kohl's is a great place to buy a suit jacket. I guess you would call it a blazer. Do you have one nearby? I am not sure if they sell them on line, but the prices were very good.

Yes we have Kohl's and LOVE it. As a matter of fact, that is where DH's dress pants came from! :thumbsup2

I think we'll try there, he would probably be more comfortable in a blazer than a full suit. AND I know I can probably find something for myself there too. :rotfl:

I'll just make a big transfer before I call for ressies in August. If I don't need it for V&A, no big deal, I would have to transfer some in there end of August anyway......I have a teen and a pre-teen who need school clothes. :teeth:

Thanks everyone! I am so excited about making the reservation. I LOVE a challenge. Here's wishing I get it!!! pixiedust:

Maybe Mr. Disney will know about the Chef's Table reservations. I'd like to know if my card will be charged as well, I am looking to reserve it for 8 in January.

Speaking as a guy, I would strongly recommend not sneaking out to buy DH a jacket. It's the kind of thing you want to fit "just right" and there is just no good way to do that. In particular, it's near impossible to get the right sleeve length off-the rack.

That assumes you are going to get a really nice jacket. If you are just going to pick up something inexpensive to be used this once, what's the point? You can get the same thing just borrowing one of the V&A jackets. They won't make you feel like a rule breaker - a lot of the reason they are V&A's (and charge V&A prices) is the service. That goes for everyone from the guy cleaning your breadcrumbs to the guy helping you borrow a jacket. Though I've never done it at V&A's, I've had to borrow a jacket at a couple fine restaurants, and was never made to feel like a "rule breaker".

PS - As a side off-topic note - when you get back, take the guy shopping for a nice, dark suit. Someday he's going to need it.
