What can we expect crowd-wise and weather-wise the third week in August? We've always gone in late Nov/early Dec until this year (don't want to take kids out of school anymore...)

Any feedback appreciated. I know it will be busier and hotter, but I hope it will still be enjoyable.

Our first trip to Disney two years ago was in late August and the crowds were fine. We went with DD's 6 & 4, DS 3 and choose that time because of many rave reviews for visiting in August. I was nervous about how DH would do with the kids, heat -- and way too many people, it was his very first trip ever and he was total Disney sceptic. It rained a little here and there and it was hot --- but we never waited in line for more than 10 minutes. Ever. Took the advice from these boards hit Fantasyland first thing in the morning -- made use of Fast Pass. It was great!!!

So now we are totally spoiled and plan to head back this August. I am curious if the Fairytale Package made a big difference in crowds and if it will be offered again this year. I am keeping my fingers crossed for good news!!

We had always gone late Oct/early Nov. but didn't want to take dd out of school at the moment. We were there last August for the third week. I found the crowds to be a little bigger than I thought, but that was most likely from FTP (people just like me!!). THe weather was a whole different kettle of fish. Yes, it was hot and humid. But it was just the same here in NE. What I didn't figure on was the huge amount of rain. I knew it would rain every day, but evidently what they got that week was out of the ordinary. Figures, I'ml there!! It rained from Monday to Sat. every day from about 2 pm through the night. E-night on Fri. was something to see.....people in Mickey ponchos having a good time even if it killed them in the rain!!! At least it was warm rain. Would I go again at that time? Yep, I'm going the same time frame in 2005. Now, I'm just hoping for a dry second week in December this year and next year!!!!

We started going the end of August for the same reason - we didn't want to take the kids out of school anymore now that they were older. In 2002 we were pleasantly surprised. It wasn't as hot as I thought it would be and there was hardly any rain. The crowds were less than what we were used to which was an added bonus.

Then we went this past August. There was so much rain! And the crowds were heavier but not unbearable, probably due to Fairytale package.

If it came to pulling the kids out of school or going in August, I would choose going in August at this stage in our life. Just bring your ponchos and don't leave your resort without them! It's amazing how quick the rain storms can start!

We went last week of August this year, hours were reduced but crowds weren't that bad. Most AM we were in Epcot all by ourselves (we stayed at Beach Club), really only felt the crowds at MK and especially Fantasyland. My kids are older though and not into MK all that much. The weather was overcast, I think we lucked out, only 2 out of 9 days felt really hot, and we do not like heat. We enjoyed it, would do it again. In fact DH and I went again in October for the Food & Wine Festival and it was more crowded and just as hot. We saw a husband and wife walking around Epcot and her DH goes - I'll never come in August you would have to be crazy. I of course had to pipe in, that we were there end of August and it was less crowded and not any hotter. His wife goes -- see I told you, he says -- she is lying, she says -- why would she lie? They then proceed to argue all the way out the park, dh and I were hysterical laughing.

thanks to all for your personal experiences with WDW in August. We have hard;y had the chance to really enjoy the water parks going in November/December before, so am looking forward to the heat in this respect :)
