I was wondering how the crowds are at the Fort in August?
Also how crowded are the parks at that time?
Im thinking of surprising the kids before school starts back.

I am not sure about crowds but it is H-O-T!

In our area of GA, we start school around the beginning of August, but I know other states start school around the end of the month.

I did find this on the web:In late August: many schools in the southeast are back in session, and crowds are typically less. Also, resort prices drop somewhat. Watch out, though, for earlier park closings!

same as the above poster....Later into Aug. the crowds will get smaller. If you don't mind paying a little. Go to Touringplans.com they have a crowd calendar. You will need to join. But I use it every year to pick the exact dates I am going to go to WDW. And it has not let me down!!!!

I went in Aug. It is hot. So plan pool time in the afternoon.

This past August (first week) the Fort had sites but the Parks were busy, lot's of people from other countries...Wait time for most major attractions, Soar-in, Everest etc was about an hour and 45.

And it was hot and it rained, but what the hey, "IT'S DISNEY AND THE FORT"

We spent the last week of July and all of last August at FW. The first two weeks of August was busy but there were sites available. The last two weeks in August was like a ghost town. For much of that time, our loop (1100) had no more than 3 sites occupied. The only loop that was quite full was the 100 loop, but I'm guessing that was because the 200 loop was closed. We checked every other loop and only one (loop 300) had more than 50% of the sites occupied.

I think one reason for the low occupancy was the free dining. You could stay at a value resort with free dining included for around the same price we were paying for a premium site.

We didn't notice a huge difference during the month with park attendance. Again, I think this had to do with the free dining. Also, if free dining is offered during your time there, be sure to book your dining ASAP as it was very difficult to even find a restaurant with walk up availability at lunch the couple of times we tried.

As for the rain, we have been there many times during August and normally you can set your watch by the afternoon storms. This past summer was really weird... very rarely did it rain in the late afternoon. Numerous times it was overnight and at one point, I think we went 7 days or so without any daytime rain.

We have been camping at the Fort in August for years. The first 2 weeks are about 3/4 full on weekdays and full on weekends. The last 2 weeks usually are quite empty. weekends get busier but never seem full. Weekdays are empty. Last August we spent the whole month in the Fort and during the last 2 weeks most loops only had 3 or 4 campers in them during the week.

It does get VERY HOT during August. So check your air conditioning before leaving home. You will have it on most of the time !!

Since we love the heat, August is our favorite month to camp at the Fort.

The first two weeks of August are very busy. Some sites may be available but generally it’s too hot.

One of the trips we took last year was the week before Labor Day. According to the Cast Members at FW, it was an exceptionally slow week even for them. We we one of two campers in the 900 loop. There was no one in the 1000 loop until later that week. The 200 loop was empty and the 100 loop had 4 campers. The 600 loop had the most upon our arrival. As the week progressed it began to fill until it peeked on Saturday, when we left. The parks were equally slow and progressively got busier as the week wore on.

Fortunately, they had a cool front come through and it did not get above 90 that week and was in the mid 80's on most days.

I can't speak for other parts of the country, but the Florida school year starts in mid-August. Therefore, a lot of people use the first two weeks in August as their "last hurrah" for the summer and go to WDW and FtW. If you like overcrowded parks and hot, steamy temps...that would be the time you want to go.

Just curious what everyone is calling hot and steamy?
Is it 90 to 100 degrees? Whats the humidity there that time of year?

If I had a chance to go to Disney in Aug, I'd do it inna heart beat !
If I'm home in Aug,,I sweat, I stink,,It's friggn HOT.

I live 25 miles from the Fort. 90-100 degrees in August is the norm & so is 95-100% humidity. Contrary to popular misconception - 100% humidity does not mean that it's raining outside. It just means that it feels like you're trying to breathe while underwater!
