We normally visit in the fall, but this year DH wants to take me and DD in early June (around the 6th) for our birthdays. What are the crowd levels like this time of year? Thank you!

Busy. But fall has become much busier also. Grad nights can be a busier yet in the evenings. I actually really enjoyed going in June. But I would probably plan a visit after Grad nights were done and the AP's were blocked for the summer.

We really enjoy going in early June. This year will be our 3rd time going the week of Memorial Day, which also includes the first couple of days in June. DL tends to get busy in the afternoon & evenings especially on Grad Nights and week days from what we've seen at that time of year, but it's manageable. Comparing it to when we went during our kids' Fall Break in October, I think that our October visit was a lot more crowded than early June. I prefer June over October.

According to this part of Disneyland's website, So Cal Select AP's are blocked out for the summer starting Friday 6/9. Regular So Cal AP's also have block out dates in June, but not as many as the So Cal Select AP. So Cal AP block out dates are:
  • Sat 6/3
  • Fri 6/9 - Sat 6/10
  • Fri 6/16 - Sat 6/17
  • Wed 6/21 - Sat 6/24
  • Fri 6/30
Ironically, you might see a DROP in attendance once the So Cal Select AP summer block out dates start on 6/9. Sometimes with the So Cal Select APs, the first week BEFORE their passes are blocked out, you can see an uptick in park attendance because they all want to get on that 1 last ride before they're blocked out for the summer. Then when the So Cal Select APs are no longer blocked (starting 8/21), attendance can go up at the end of August because all of the So Cal locals go back so they can see a parade, an attraction they missed during the summer, etc.

Regardless of all that, it is still MUCH BETTER than going over Thanksgiving or Christmas!

In early June, we don't notice it getting "busy" until about 1:30-2pm. Then we take a break for the afternoon at our hotel and go back to the parks in the evening.

Thanks! I forgot about Grad Nights and just looked it up, falls on both of our birthdays. :(

It has dropped a little around when the lower pass is blocked. Last year it was pretty nice the second weekend of the month, for a weekend at least. I hate even mentioning it here though. :). Don't want to mess it up.

I think I picked the worst week possible. June 3-9. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now. GCV has been booked since July 3, airfare purchased and I purchased tickets yesterday. I plan to take advantage of the EMH and the magic morning once I can figure out how these things work.

That's the week we're going too - those exact dates. I'm cringing a little every time I read about the crowds that week, but we'll make it work. Better than being at home, anyway!

Just show up at the gate an hour before regular opening with park ticket and room key. DL it is tomorrowland and fantasyland that are open. DCA it is carsland and the pier. Fastpasses are not issued until regular park opening time. Get as much done as you can in the first 3 hours, then expect to take it slow after that.

What about the evenings?

Are there activities you recommend for the afternoon like the shows?

Some rides usually have short wait times, even mid-day. Snow, Pinoch, Pooh, carousel, tea cups can be okay. For DCA, mermaid, carousel, Mater's junkyard jamboree, etc.

Some FP rides rarely get the FP very far out. Roger Rabbit, Mansion, sometimes thunder and Sky School.

Be sure to figure out which rides have single rider. Radiator Springs Racers, Splash Mt, Screamin', Indiana Jones.... I think there are others. Monsters Inc has a "back row" pass for groups of 2.

I love Tiki Room and Its Tough to be a Bug, and never have to wait longer than the start of the next show. Great Moments with Mr Lincoln fits that category too. If anyone likes Star Wars, you may want to check out Launch Pad.

Another set of rides can have a pretty long wait, but you get a long ride in exchange. Pirates, Nemo Subs, Small World.

I don't have any shows right now that I say are my favorites (not since Aladdin and Billy Hill closed). Mickey and the Magical Map has good singing, but the story seems disjointed to me. I've not seen Frozen. Not really into the things like play time with the green soldiers, but I also don't have young kids. There are a lot of "atmosphere" music like the Newsies, Dapper Dans, marching band, etc. that can be fun to sit and listen to.

We picked the same bad week. If I hadn't already booked our airfare to Reno (we are starting our trip in Yosemite), I would probably change our dates after reading about the crowds that first week of June.

Our dates are June 14-20. How do you think the crowds will be on that week? Which single day do you think will be the most crowded at the parks? Saturday? Sunday? We have one day planned for an off site excursion and would like to pick the day the parks will be the busiest.

THANKS

The cheapest annual passes, the SoCal select are blocked the entire time. That will help a lot.

However, the next level up, the SoCal, are able to get in any day except Fri and Sat. That is not good.

SoCal are blocked 21 and 22, but I'm not sure why. I am not aware of any holidays at that time.

I'm not sure any day will be any better than any other.

We are looking at the following week to go after the blackouts you mentioned start and after Grad Nights end. We are pretty flexible for the whole month at this point and I am probably going to drive myself crazy weighing the pros and cons of each week in June! :):confused3

Interesting - I never knew about the "back row" pass for groups of 2. Is there a separate line for this?
There are cast members standing in front of the regular line who hand out paper passes called Buddy Passes. You take that and enter through the exit. They will also give you one if you are solo. Since I know they do that, I just bypass the entire line and walk directly up to them and ask for a Buddy Pass.

I think they start when the line gets longer than like 15 minutes. Ask the cast member at the regular entrance if they are using the back row passes. If so, they will give you the pass, and you go in through the exit, then make a right and line up along the wall.
