Croup

I had croup when I was a little kid, and outgrew it. Neither of my kids had it.

My mom would run hot water in the bathtub, and get it all steamy, and have me breath in the steam. Some have mentioned cold air as well, but I don't ever remember my mom taking me out in the cold air, course that's been....well I won't say how many years ago, but a long long time ago.

Thanks to everyone for your advice and well wishes. DD still has a cough but it doesn't sound as bad as it did before and she seems to be feeling a little better.

One of my daughters had croup for the first time last summer.
It was in the middle of the night and we thought she was having a night terror at first. Her breathing got more anxious and I knew something was wrong. DH rushed her to emergency and her O2 levels were 85% or something. She was blue around her lips but we didn't see it because we were at the lake and did not turn the lights on in the trailer to wake the other kids up. Proud parenting moment there.
They treated her with O2 and a steroid.

We followed up with the pediatrician and he said it was probably croup and not asthma. She went on to have another episode this January and her breathing turned to strider and she was gasping. We live a block from a hospital so DH rushed her again. She was treated with steroids and something else I can't remember. She hated the nebulizer.

It is scary. At least we know what it is now and if she starts off with the seal bark then we know to watch and to take her in if it gets bad.
